Interconnect rate cuts

Why only next year? Did they make a compromise with the network operators, so that they can make some last minute profits before their year end results are calculated?

Lets just wait for feedback from ICASA or the operators which attended the meeting. It is a reliable source, but broken telephone and all that :)

I just have this strange feeling that Mr AKC had a huge finger in this pie to lower the interconnect rates.

I just hope that the rate cut is worth while!

Whats the need to wait so long? Surely eveyone has an open day in their schedule before the end of this year?

Mr AKC also had a HUGE finger in the pie to INCREASE the interconnect rates!

The date might have to do with obtaining shareholder buy-in/cooperation, etc. As there are listed companies in this group, it will impact the share price, dividend expectations, market value, etc....

We have just received information that the proposed date for the cutting of costs from the ICASA meeting this morning is 1 Feb 2010. We will try to confirm the information.
Just highlighted the bad news for ya'll :D

...which is why it amazes me that he so openly shows his own hypocracy.

He led the company (Vodacom) while hiking the interconnect rates.

He later left Vodacom.

He now campaigns to lower the interconnect rates.

Sure, now he's doing the right thing for the SA general public.. but clearly he's shown that his public opinion is in line with whoever is paying his bills.

My sincere thanks RPM!

You have given us some hope and me something to get through to home-time :D

I also wonder why so long... but I guess it makes sens around a year end. Feb 2010 will come quickly... this year is almost over.

Wow, this is great news. I never thought that ICASA would ever contribute anything positive to South Africa's telecoms. Just hope there are no delays.

what actually stops them from doing it at the end of the month? probably systems etc. except if they were taking the prices up, they would do it TOMORROW. funny how the systems dont become a problem then
