Telecoms make their money out of subscribers, that means call-ORIGINATION.
They should not be allowed to turn a healthy profit from NON-SUBSCRIBERS !!!
So: carrying calls and terminating calls should be done AT COST, or at most with a 2% profit cap.

Why? Why would you charge someone only entrance fee if you can charge them exit fee too? And another fee for how long they stay? And more fees for each activity they do?
In a capitalist money driven world they are doing everything perfectly: as much profit as possible.
But when blind profiteering undermines your countries ability to compete on a global stage you have to step in. Sadly, no stepping in is done by good old i***a.

That only works if all the networks are more or less the same size. Your model would screw Cell-C and Neotel. They have more terminating than originating calls, thus they will be subsidising the big network's calls.

That is a really well thought out argument coming from a trade union. Normally all you hear from trade unions is "racism" this, "racism" that, baseless accusations that border on hate speech or a garbled stream of communist rhetoric.
It is quite refreshing to see an actual argument with merit for a change.

I know, but race doesn't/shouldn't have anything to do with the quality of an argument. Black, white, indian whatever, the kind of rubbish that is spouted by the majority of these unions is just a series of inane brain farts to the point where they almost forget to mention the reason they are striking and/or pursuing legal action. Bravo to solidarity for presenting their concerns in such a clear and concise manner.
This is the way trade unions should behave if they ever have a concern.
Not that I can see any reason why a trade union should be commenting on interconnect rates, but that is another story.
