Interconnect rates should be 25c per minute or even less

ECN CEO John Holdsworth previously said that the law requires that interconnection pricing be cost based and that consumers should not accept interconnection rates of anything above 30 cents. “Any interconnection rate that is above 30 cents allows continued rank profiteering at the expense of the consumer,” said Holdsworth.

Huh, if the law so requires why hasn't this happened yet? Or do they (telecoms companies) have special privileges putting them above the law?
 
Does anyone think a corp the size of Vodacom or MTN are going to let couple million rands of revenue (this being raw profit cause hell, at the height of MTN's charges of R3.60 p/minute, it was costing them 50c a Min for you to make that call) just slide under the table because its fair? course not. everyone is in it to make a buck, they just managed to find something we all need and make a killing, killing us the consumer.

hmm maybe the difference between a government which actually cares about it's people, and one which thinks that talking about stuff is enough?
 
The only reason is so the fat cats can milk CellC, Vodacom and MTN interconnect is almost equal, VC pays MTN 50Mil and MTN pays VC 50 Mil.
The only problem is due to numbers most of Cellc's calls are across networks resulting in huge revenue for them.
This is why Cellc is fighting to bring it down.
 
Where is Malema when you need him? He should take on the interconnect rates instead of the mines?!

Before expect Julius to blabber about this, you need to check to see if he isn't a majority shareholder or director of Vodacom or MTN :rolleyes:

Agreed. Everyone except ICASA and the good minister know it. But the cellular giants are not going to let him find out, as it would decimate their unwarranted, exorbitant profits :(
 
John Holdsworth also said the cost of an interconnect is 2c as audited and confirmed through his books - right? (or did I miss something what he said on stage at last year's MyBB conference.)
