Interest rate slaughter

You must have a very high risk car.

Still don't get how people are happy with a 1600 that gives 77kw, when my 1500 Honda gives me 88kw.

And whats the torque? Vtecs were great engines 30 years ago.

My 1600 gives 125kw and 250nm torque;)

88kw due to it's high revving nature, most of which isn't used in the daily commute. It's not about the quoted power figure, it's about how that power is available during day to day driving. My old Civic has 102kw out of its 1.8, and it felt like a dog compared to a similar 1.8 in an old Audi that "only" made 92kw. This was due to the stupid "reverse vtec" right in the middle of the rev range which limited power.

Don't be a sheeple and look at quoted power figures only.

Also note that I'm the resident Honda fanboy (well one of them), so any "hater" arguments are invalid.

you see your statement opens up these sort of replies:

And whats the torque? Vtecs were great engines 30 years ago.

Also, Vtecs are still great engines when driven properly.

This is why I started that new thread - people are very quick to quote kw and ignore torque and it does make a difference. :)

Well my Ballade:

Power (kW @ r/min) 88//6600
Torque (Nm @ r/min) 145/4600

My last Honda was the 2006 Civic VXI Auto and I hated the way it geared back when going up the slightest hill. I still think it was a great car.

Well your own fault for getting an automatic. ;)

No need to roll your eyes - you were actually agreeing with me in #83!

I'm rolling my eyes because you want to try prove a point with the other thread, not because I disagree with what you're saying. The other thread is fair enough, I'll reply with a detailed post a bit later that maybe clarifies the relationship between power, torque and revs, and how all 3 actually result in better "driveability".

So I just ordered a new Polo... 1.6 C/Line, Metallic blue, Panoramic sunroof, cruise, arm rest, RCD-320, 5yr 60 000km service plan.

After a R21000 discount because there's a new one due, became R232 000. Theyr giving me R20 000 for a 2005 Renault Clio 1.2 16v with 211 000kms (Dad's car, letting me use it as a deposit so I cant really complain about that).

The best interest rate they can offer me is 13.5%, apparently MFC refused (1st time buyer, been working for 4 months only). I'm taking VW insurance at R399. Is there a way to renegotiate the interest rate at a later stage when I have a better credit score? Or am I stuck with this interest rate until the car is paid off (planning to keep the car until it falls apart, that's if someone doesn't steal it)

Edit: added the 16" alloys too

Yoh, they saw you coming with that interrest rate

First time buyer I doubt you'll get a lot better if any. Just bite the bullet man. You need to start somewhere.

As for the Renault, that is damn cheap. Rather try sell it out of hand if you can, sure you can get way for it than R 20k

I am just very tired of kw pis s ing competitions - I actually went and looked for that after I read the "my Honda's better than your VW" because it has 88 kw. There are too many factors that come into play with that sort of statement.

I totally agree with you there, there are too many other factors. What is the kw/ton? N/A versus Boost? What is the gearing like? Where does power band sit in the rev range (this is where torque comes into play btw)? How is the power band utilised in day to day driving conditions? What are the drivetrain losses?

This doesn't mean the new Forester is quick up at altitude compared to it's rivals though. It's where the conversation could have ended if people didn't start talking about brand "haters".

I got prime on my 1st car in April :D

private business banker helped

VWSA knows the 1.6 in the Polo is old tech crap which is why they are finally replacing it in the new facelift model. Selling EU2 emission level engines in this day and age is retarded. Buy it... well I guess a sucker is born every minute.

Other 1.4 engines are on EU5 level since it was specified and have the same power output.

I'm really interested to hear your take on the 2015 Passat... I made a thread, but you have not visited. I want you to explain to me how much better the Insignia is!

OP:

Don't be a richard-head and go into debt for a mere motorcar.

Rather save and buy your cars cash. If you can't do that, you're living beyond your means. Living beyond your means means you're developing financial habits that will trap you into wage-slavery all your life. Be a rebel. Dare to be different. Rise above the herd. Drive a skedonk until you have the cash.

Wow! Basically the whole world is living beyond their means. Eye opener... Thanks.
