Interest rate slaughter

I got a 15% interest rate back in 2010 when I bought my car. R160k loan. So I paid it off as quickly as I could. Managed to pay it off in 1.5 years.

3kw and 25 torques... meh, not worth R60k and 2.5 times the insurance premium.

Anyway, about interest rates it should be about 2% higher if you go with fixed as opposed to linked. That was the case last time I bought but it really did not phase me much cause I planned to (and did) settle the car in less than two a years.

20k went to the Sunroof, cruise, bluetooth radio, 16" alloys, metallic, service plan... so 45k for a better quality and FAR better looking product? Not bad I think..

I am very weary of all the tricks they are using as of late to make people buy cars. Discount seems to be a favourite, I guess it is because so many people fall for it. Coincidently I got one of these today, like I have R168k to blow on another car...

Shhh, it's like arguing with a brick wall.

...I'm not much of a VW fan, but the discount and R399 insurance sold me...

yeah, and I checked for next year's quotes, i'l still be good as i'l have a year's premiums on my record.
Great stuff, Dunno what went wrong with my quoting there :D

As for the interest rate, I picked up my new-to-me i30 today and I signed for 13% interest fixed over 6 years. Also 22 years, first time car buyer, no deposit and no residual.

ABSA offered me 14.6%, SBSA refused to offer me finance, MFC offered me 13.6 linked and Wesbank 13% fixed, which is what I went for. It helps that my period is very long, keeping my monthly payment low, plus I can add in more as I find I have spare cash lying around

Just curious, is it optional or standard on the Comfortline to get wipers that return when you switch off the car?

Of course it's an option - everything is an option.

I know, tell me about it, they are all like....

Yes yes... mock... but what is the ratio of old VWs to old Opels on the road? VW spends money on quality, not features...

U'v made me start defending a brand i never thought i'd defend. I'm one of them now.. viva VW viva! VDUB4LIFE!!

Even the ratio of new VW to new VW is good - VW outsell pretty much anything that comes near. Even I had a Citi at one stage for about 2 years and I spent more on it than what I paid for it.

I just feel that VW are really overpriced for what you get. Hell, just go and see how much a good condition Golf 4 will cost nowadays. You can get a lot of car for the equivalent cash

Interest rate seems perfectly normal for me considering it's a first time buyer and high risk (working four months).

Very much doubt you'll get better than that.

On my first car, I asked MFC to re look at my interest rate (about a year in) and they dropped it by 0.5%.
This isn't much, but they definitely do these things.

I read that you can ask for them to re-look at it every 6 months.

Unfortunately no longer an option, not with Nedbank at least.

They have taken a company wide stance not to negotiate interest terms after I had done it three times before.

Which is why I won't have my next home loan with them.
