Hi all

Having a rather peculiar problem with my ADSL line. Every 2 or so hours, my ADSL line will drop but only some sites will become unreachable (I cannot ping 1.1.1.1, access Discord or Steam but I can get to Google.co.za, YouTube, Facebook and a bunch of other sites). After about 3 minutes, my pings to 1.1.1.1 will come back and everything will be fine.
I logged the line with Telkom twice and each time I log it they close the ticket saying that there is nothing wrong with the line (which there shouldn't be as the phone line always has dial tone and I live maybe 200 metres from the exchange).

This has been affecting my work lately as well as I have been working from home since lockdown started and every time this intermittent drop occurs, it kills my VPN connection. I have had to use my phone as a hotspot just to get any reasonable amount of work done.

Has anyone else experienced this sort of thing or have a fix for it?

Cheers

I've been having exactly the same issue from the last week or so. Some sites become unreachable, games will disconnect but some sites like google.com are okay. It happens every few hours or so, and lasts a few minutes at most.

This has been ongoing for months.
It is affecting LTE, xDSL and fibre.
If your connection lands up on the Telkom Internet backbone basically, this happens, regardless of last mile.

I've also been having this exact same issue this past week. I am in Durban.

I have both Telkom ADSL and LTE and it drops on both

Same with me in Durban. I've changed to Google DNS and it's improved a bit but Cloudflare is a no go.

I was going to ask what's Telkom's default DNS these days?

Same with me - Durban. I also changed to Google DNS and it seems to be sorted now. Cloudflare and OpenDNS were giving the same issue with disconnects.

@Fox1

I've been having a problem that I now think may be caused by the same issue.

I just realised I never tried Google DNS. Will give that a try.

I know of someone else, about 50km away and with a different ISP, having the same problem with their fibre.

Having the same issue here in Durban. Both on Telkom VDSL and LTE. It started last week- I'm almost certain.
