Well there is not other way to describe it. Oh well, downloading a 1 GB demo on PS3 now, says it will be done in 25 minutes. w00t.

This is the reply i get from my ISP. I am very irritated now, as I have a business account and should have been informed that I will need to make provisions for Monday.does anyone have an official statement from IS about the Seacom problem? i.e. what's happening, and how long will it take?
Thank you for your correspondence below.
Due to unforeseen circumstances, the international maintenance of the Seacom cable scheduled for Saturday 24 April 2010 had to be postponed until Sunday 25 April 2010.
The maintenance is currently still underway and is taking longer than expected.
Engineers are attending as priority to ensure downtime is kept to a minimum.
Services will be intermittent until such time that the maintenance has been completed successfully [No ETTR]
Why is it that a cable we did not even have a year ago, is causing the entire country to go belly up now?

With more bandwidth available, people use more and/or expect more. So I guess the capacity of SAT3/SAFE just isn't enough to satisfy the demand. Also, IS is using more and more Seacom bandwidth since it is apparently cheaper, and maybe it not as easy to acquire alternative bandwidth from SAT3 again?
While I understand that there is increased usage, the majority of all usage is p2p. So, shape the **** out of p2p, and let people get back to work.
I cannot even open google, ffs.
/end rant
Anyone know wherei can get 5 or 10 gbs of non seacon IS unshaped, that will run at normal full speeds?
Hmm, interesting. Our Afrihost ADSL have no international connectivity at all but when I signed up for WebAfrica Prepaid ADSL international connection works fine. Seems to me that WebAfrica is one of very few companies that don't put all their eggs in one basked as is the case with Afrihost and others.
