International Down IS

Thanks to the MWEB rep, he's informed us that they will only finish tomorrow (27th) sometime with the repairs.

does anyone have an official statement from IS about the Seacom problem? i.e. what's happening, and how long will it take?
This is the reply i get from my ISP. I am very irritated now, as I have a business account and should have been informed that I will need to make provisions for Monday.

Thank you for your correspondence below.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, the international maintenance of the Seacom cable scheduled for Saturday 24 April 2010 had to be postponed until Sunday 25 April 2010.
The maintenance is currently still underway and is taking longer than expected.

Engineers are attending as priority to ensure downtime is kept to a minimum.
Services will be intermittent until such time that the maintenance has been completed successfully [No ETTR]

No Estimated time to recovery/repair i am assuming... Terrible PLANNING on Seacoms part. I also need to know why my international bandwidth is now routed through Seacom, as it used to be SAT.

I think Winston got shot down, IS (Openweb) is completely dead on international.

My AH international just died as well. Browsing was fine up till just 5 minutes ago. Switched to WA prepaid backup, much better now.

God knows when IS will be working again......

Why is it that a cable we did not even have a year ago, is causing the entire country to go belly up now?

With more bandwidth available, people use more and/or expect more. So I guess the capacity of SAT3/SAFE just isn't enough to satisfy the demand. Also, IS is using more and more Seacom bandwidth since it is apparently cheaper, and maybe it not as easy to acquire alternative bandwidth from SAT3 again?

Well there is not other way to describe it. Oh well, downloading a 1 GB demo on PS3 now, says it will be done in 25 minutes. w00t.

Schickelgruber, not sure how long you've been on DSL mate, but 1GB in 25 minutes on a 4MB line is not possible...the best any one of us has managed is 1.5GB in an hour, do the math.

Proff

I'm with webafrica - totally dead - actually purchased a "prepaid" 1 gig account yesterday to get through. Their prepaid goes through SAIX which is working 100% - 300ms ping to eu/uk servers in HoN.

Saix are fine it seems, only iS is completely dead...

while on topic, whats the best / affordable uncapped account to go for if you wanna download p2p and game online to eu servers? Using a 4mb line. I remember when uncapped existed briefly in the past where u could purchase a 512k account and still get 4mb speeds...

While I understand that there is increased usage, the majority of all usage is p2p. So, shape the **** out of p2p, and let people get back to work.
I cannot even open google, ffs.

/end rant

I agree, MWEB rep did confirm that they are shaping p2p heavily. IS has no official communication, so I don't know what they are doing. I am currently using WA prepaid to get work done.

Anyone know wherei can get 5 or 10 gbs of non seacon IS unshaped, that will run at normal full speeds?

Hmm, interesting. Our Afrihost ADSL have no international connectivity at all but when I signed up for WebAfrica Prepaid ADSL international connection works fine. Seems to me that WebAfrica is one of very few companies that don't put all their eggs in one basked as is the case with Afrihost and others.

Mweb is also working ;)

Using ibust now - sigh. Third or fourth time this last few weeks that I switch to ibust. DSL is going rogue.
