International Down IS

@Peter

Any idea if bandwidth will improve after 19:00 when the business side shuts down?

I am currently using Neotel Lite for international, but my main Afrihost account is still down. There are no updates on Seacom's official Facebook or Twitter pages, the last was a twitter notice saying this could last up to 3 days.

This situation again proves that SA is a dismal failure at providing inexpensive, reliable internet access to small business and individual users.

Well just spoke to axxess support desk, and it was news to them that the uncapped express accounts are down (the only reason some people are still alive is because it is illegal to kill them), seeing as these accounts are using satellite and not seacom. But lucky for me, the all immediately rushed to report it to the bastion of incompetence....IS

Oh no, they knew about them being down. Same as they knew the Uncapped Express+ accounts supposedly using SAT3 are down. I'm still waiting for feedback from their General Manager as he is apparently the only one who can tell me.

One can only speculate about what happnes when a similar problem arises during the swc and a big match is on the go. I guess all the tv broadcasters will link via a sick satphone link!

I'll bet SB has brown underware!

MWEB rep said in another thread that repairs could take until Friday...

Axxess Express+ accounts are now using Seacom. No change in the service has been announced as far as I am aware of and they've now updated their website to reflect the change in backbone. Apparently ALL IS consumer ADSL accounts are using the cheaper and less-redundant Seacom cable.

Still doesn't explain why the uncapped express is down as that uses satellite

EDIT: Well I am now freakin pissed off, I wanted an uncapped account that does not use seacom, that is why i took the uncapped express, but also found out now, as EricsON said, I was paying R900 for an uncapped account which never used the satellite at all, they are all going across the seacom cable. So basically IS decided to screw everyone, by charging over inflated prices for connections that others get for a steal (and throttling!!!!). Man, I just need one number at IS, just one

Its shocking. IS charges more for the fibre than the satellite account but both accounts are actually identical. Shocking!!!!!

cavedog I doubt they are identical. They most likely just up the contention ratio of the "satellite" (over fibre) service offering.

Does anyone have international on their uncapped Oopen Web accounts?

I haven't even seen today's Sinfest :(

That's all my accounts. I find it funny that Telkom Internet is the worst off on pings. Speedtests to New York look the same on all three, 0.27Mb/s down and 0.10Mb/s up (384k line). Not that bad but worse than it was before the break. I guess Sat3 is taking some strain.
