Anybody know what the cheapest (and best) way of transferring money into an international bank account is?

I asked my bank to transfer the money for me and on the amount of R560, they added
Comm amount R100
Overseas Bank Levy R45
Postage R50
VAT Amount R27.30

Total due by client is R782.30.

There has to be a cheaper way. PS - Credit card wasn't an option. This was for accommodation at an overseas hotel.

Any ideas??

The hotel only gave bank account details. They don't have a facility to pay by credit card.

Must be a really small hotel if they dont take c/c. maybe moneygram direct so someone can collect on other side- not sure of charges.

I also had the same problem when ordering from body building.com, they only accept money transfer, 200 odd rand for 350 rand transfer from std bank

I assume you're not with FNB?

I pay a total of R140 odd rand per swift transfer and I let the receiver bare the cost of the transfer. I transfer R20-30k odd. No VAT, no Postage fee, nothing.

You can also (now) do the transfers online with fnb's online banking facility
