International openweb down

what u gonna get instead though? Do u use the local for torrents cos if u do then there is not much else out there...

Still i guess if it is THAT slow then u arent really using it now either :p:p

I blame telkom.

Funny enough, torrents peaked at 31kb/s with my saix account. Get a whopping 2k with IS if i'm lucky. This telscum account going to be capped soon as i disconnect.

/me makes a note to top up his web africa account

cool man, thanks. I'll give that a go. How much browsing do u think u can get out of a gig? I mean with no funky things like streaming( on a 192k line...not likely) or radio or gaming. Just like browsing? Would a gig last me a month , u think??

i think it is possible, i went through a month with browsing, mails, and a bit of downloading - 1.3GB

but thats just me...

depends on how much you browse and the size of the sites youre visiting

Sigh I am having massive problems as well. OpenRouter sites in the task bar 'initializing' for some time. With OpenRouter pages take YEARS to load, without it and normal 'direct' connect pages go a hell of a lot faster. My simple solution is dont use OpenRouter, it doesn't help a bit but slows you down. Got my IS account to use news servers and that is going at a whopping 3k/bs. Lucky enough to have my friends telkom account so that I can check my gmail and play games. My IS account is pathetic. Why offer a service for home customers when you prioritize for business anyway.

Also, why does MSN Messenger not work with Openrouter? It was advertised that it did yet I haven't had it able to connect in ages and I do know it is setup correctly...

At the end of the day is it really worth it with all this hassle, non connectivity and pain of staring at a download going at super tortoise speeds, pathetic

Supposed to automatically route int traffic to Openweb's proxy. They had the normal proxies but it was abused by people downloading torrents through them so I am also assuming this OpenRouter is shaping as well... leading to *** speeds etc.

Okay thanks, but still many problems :/

Bad luck on the gprs..

Hey Friends,

Due to the IS slowdown, clients using OpenRouter will be affected. Unfortunately, if you experience slow pings to our server, it will not be much use reaching our server in the first place, as traffic is slow already.

I have been working with IS most of everyday since this started, and I just feel that its going nowhere.

I suggest everyone having problems email [email protected] directly. Maybe this will lead to a wake up call.

I apologise on their behalf, I really do.

Kind regards
MrBEEP

MrBEEP, everything is working fine except for openbrowse... even if IS international was down, this shouldnt make a difference. Could you please explain what we should tell IS?

Let me put it into clear understandable words:

When I disable the proxy I can actually use local, and some international sites half load.

When I Enable the proxy I can't even get local pages to load nevermind international, I simply receive a server unreachable error for ALL webpages (local or otherwise). So the problem lies with the proxy.

I am using the OB2 proxy... (but tried local1 and ob3 proxy).

Now that its "in clear understandable words", I repeat.

If the ping (latency) to our server is high, then the international will be slow. Other sites might load fine, but if the route to our servers are high, as they are, there will be a problem.

MrBEEP - Where is your proxy server? On your own diginet line via IS or in their hosting farm?
