International SMS Issues When Porting to TM

Hi all

While investigating various networks' pros and cons, I noticed the issue regarding porting to TM that concerns the receiving of international SMS's.

Despite is being on the TM site (6th point here): https://www.telkommobile.co.za/help/international-sms, the sales person in the V&A Waterfront store had no idea about it at all.

A client-service person, replying to a mail I sent via the TM site, said it's been resolved, but I'm interested in hearing about any personal info you folks on the thread may have about this.

Legacy dissatisfaction with Telkom means I'm naturally very skeptical about anything they claim/profess.

Crow, international sms wasn't active on your line most probably, they had to activate it. How long did you wait for the turnaround time for them to respond and give you the good news?

I make international calls on a regular basis with Telkom Mobile and haven't experienced any issues whatsoever. Regarding SMS, haven't given it a bash as it is cheaper to call overseas than SMS. 79 cent per minute on promotion(hopefully they will extend it(

I have joined Telkom Mobile with my cellular phone number from another mobile network operator. I can’t receive International SMS, why?

Customers that have ported in to Telkom Mobile from another network can send international SMS's but they are not yet able to receive them.

Interesting wasn't aware of that.

I haven't ported over to them yet, still investigating the various options. Their S5 deal is hugely tempting.

The issue with international SMS comes into play with 2-step verification with services like Google and Dropbox.

Crow as far as I am aware with 2-step OTP(one-time password) verification they use a local bulk sms provider or alternatively you can select the telephone option.

Just keep a spare phone with you.

Yeah google 2 factor authentication still work for after I ported from MTN to 8ta. The only people who really have an issue with this is, is the Apply people for something on those phones, not really sure, never had a Apple myself.

It's not resolved.. you can't receive sms's from most of the countries in the world.

My wife could send but not receive... only then I found that link and realised that she has tried another dud network.

It's a joke.

Massive necro, but I can't find anything else related to this issue.

I am about to port from MTN to Vodacom as I can't deal with MTN's shoddy network any longer.

Anyone know if this has been resolved?

This thread was about international smss not working after porting to Telkom Mobile specifically. Doubt it is relevant to you porting to Vodacom.
