International (US) dead?

A friend of mine using MWEB ADSL reports the same.

Telkom has just confirmed that there is an error. Spoke to a techie, there is a country wide problem with international sites. Time the South African public petitions Telkom to remove the faulty cache server.

I still dont want to call them and I urgently need to generate new licence codes for my company from servers in the USA:mad:

Correction.
Used the above proxy details and works like a charm.
No need for the registration codes though since it seems it was just the one employees PC not picking up the license codes:o

My SAIX is fine. No international last night, but 10/10 today.

My connection has yet to have any international downtime... I am perfectly fine

It seems to be getting worse!

There are now some local sites that has become inaccessible since this morning!

Telkom is falling/failing!!!

Down with DA BEAST DOWN!!!

I just joined the myadsl. You know what is wrong with you white people? You are too passive; you don’t stand together like we do. If we want something, and we don’t get it, we do take to the streets, and we shout and do all sorts of crazy things. This country belongs to the people (black/white colored/Indian, to everybody, you must learn from us. Scream shout, if the politicians want to screw you make them listen....we do.

See my Sig.
Agree 100% with you. "White" Americans and Europeans do it so why can't we?
Now there is 1 thing you can blame on apartheid, even if it is for giving us a negative idea about public protest. Take my hat off to Hellkom if I had one.

Back to topic:
@ oober
"Telkom is Faling"
make that failing..... (and no I'm not refering to their bussiness model :p )

Wheres the failover transparent proxy? or is it working and the cause why some can actually access intl?

What you mean armitage ???

you mean like the state IT department SITA??

OUCH!!!!!
What type of wan? Diginet?

If so Telkom is REALLY failing.
Will most probably find some external factor the blame...
Maybe a Virus or something , maybe "abuse" from adsl members even, forcing their network down...

LoL

Yes there does appear to be problems on Intl ADSL access

I've been trying to access certain international sites the whole day without luck, some work some don't (such a Yahoo), fairly inconsistent.

I did some basic tests, and then called DataPro to verify. The support person said he'd been receiving a high number of calls with similar complaints. At the same time he explained it's another situation (typical of most ADSL related problems) where they are powerless to resolve and are waiting on Telkom.
No announcement to customers, no explanation, no resolution time frame, nothing!

I support what someone said earlier, you can ping the sites ok, so routing isn't an issue, but the web pages won’t load.

Sounds like content filtering issues on Telkom's side!!
1. most likely - mis-configurations (a.k.a. incompetence)
2. least likely - crappy technology
3. unlikely - intentional (concerning!!)

Telkom should really read the book "I was your customer" and read it carefully!!

I look forward to the day when:

1. ICASA gets some effective leadership and a nice new set of sharp effective teeth.
2. A foreign Telco (not mickey mouse SA originating) such a BT, Sprint, AT&T etc kicks Telkom's A$$.
3. We get more choice.
4. The definition of "customer service" gets listed in the South African dictionary.
5. More initiatives like MyADSL, CarteBlance and Special Assignment etc. exist to represent the consumer and expose what needs to be exposed.

:)

Typical    (no my mouse button aint faulty, I mean it)

Same as not Hardcaping theyre own customers.
A Telkom Techie friend of mine also once stated that the speed is better with Telkom Internet acording to the line speed tester even if you have a SAIX authenticated SAIX account.

Competition Board ????

Vodacom 3G and TelkomInternet Dialup has been unaffected

I would think 3) is the most likely.
Surely even Telkom can not be so useless as #1 above.
#2? Where in the world could you buy ADSL technology so bad as to cause these problems all the time?

Hey Johanbh. Yeah was SITA that failed it seemed.
Bout 20 mins later though came back on.

AFAIK SITA works on leased lines but i could be wrong.........prbly am.......yeah think so.
