Internet blow for Telkom

How many times has Telkom's marketing department been dragged in front of the ASA now? I've lost count.

give me a break, surely ASASA should impose some sort of approval process on Telkom adverts for the next 6-12 months.

They have more than enough money to continue this practice.

Irony is... MWeb lodging the complaint

Bwahahahaha.

Habitual offender

Maybe part of an extra pillar for that customer centricity stuff.

Neotel,, hurry up please.

Kind of like a lawyer saying something that is obviously not allowed and then immediately retracting the statement - the message still lives.

Telkom’s record with the ASA is once again tarnished leaving many wondering why the incumbent continues to flight misleading advertisements.

what happens when your add is "not allowed" ? you have to remove it? yet it takes a week or two at least for this too happen, most add's run for a few weeks only anyway, so whats the motivation for telkom to "fix" their adds? absolutely nothing

It is really ironic that Mweb of all ISP's were the ones to take exception to the advert. What? Do they think they are cheapest? Now thats the pot calling the kettle black.

Ok, who entered this comment on FIN24...
Telkom might be more expensive than Mweb. However fact of the matter is that Telkom ASDL service is substantially more cost effective compared to Mweb. All ADSL bandwith originates from Telkom. I do not believe Mweb is always correctly caculating bandwitdh ussage. A further benefit of Telkom is you do not get switched off immediatly when reaching your cap. Once the cap is reached the additional ussage is compared to national user avg before your account is disabled. For this reason Telkom is MORE COST EFFECTIVE COMPARED TO ANY OTHER bandwitdh provider - period!
:D

What else do you expect from the lying scum? Its shameful that South Africa can not deal with this repeat offender. The government obviously has no control over Telkom and once again this is prooved here.

Seems their tactic is to push the ads out and bugger the rest, there will be a couple of suckers falling for their ads every time...

thing is..they advertise saying they are the best...people see it...believe it...then the add goes away...no one knows it was untrue. There should be an apology from the idiots for false advertising. I like the idea that their ads should be filtered before going to the press. that's the only way.

dumb stupid pathetic pinheads are telkom.

They should be banned from any advertising for a period of 6 months for each offence.

the ASA sends out alerts often by fax but email as well to remove the adverts, it's up to the media owner to act, in our case we generally remove the material and notify the agency within 24 hours of receipt.
