Hi guys

Sorry if this is in the wrong section.

I have a samsung omnia cellphone and I use it as a modem to go online with my laptop. It has wi-fi, wireless, hdspa etc. I use my usb cable and then connect with GPRS Web. The problem is that it is SO slow, it is hardly worth connecting.

I am not that clued up with the technical side of connecting so was wondering if I am doing something wrong or what else can I connect to for it to be faster? My friend has a 3G usb modem and also use her phone and her connection is really fast?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Your location might also be the problem. Do you get a 3g icon at the top?

HIya

There usually is a 3G icon on the top, on my phone display?

Also go to its network settings and try setting it to use only 3G (umts/HSDPA) everytime you're going to use it as a modem, then change it back to what it was when you're done web surfing. :)

Actually I checked and it doesn't say 3G when I connect, there is only an "E" and then the usual bar signal which shows three bars. I guess the E is MTN Edge?

That is correct meaning that you only have EDGE coverage (slower then HSDPA and 3G).

Edit: try a vodacom sim. Also what Tsepz_011 said might be worth a shot.

that means its connecting via edge. thats quite slow. move around till you get the 3g signal then try connecting. it should be fast then. also remember your 3g connection speed will vary depending on time, area, etc...
