The Governing Body at my school has asked me to find out if there is a better deal available than the one we currently have.

ATM our ISP is Mweb and we pay Telkom R474.68 for the DSL line rental and R299 to Mweb for a 512Kb line with a 3GB cap.

Is there better deal available?

not what your looking for but something interesting to look at ... http://www.schoolwan.org.za/

Shop around...

If you're not on the MyBroadband mailing list, you won't have seen this:

"We have revamped our broadband service listing website Broadbanddeals.co.za recently, and urge all ISPs to list their services on the website. It is entirely free of charge and the latest deals display on MyBroadband, giving ISPs excellent exposure. We hope this website will assist users in making an informed decision as to which service to use and what is available in the market today. " http://broadbanddeals.co.za/

Another source of ISP pricing info is Hellkom - see http://www.hellkom.co.za/isp-prices/

Some stray thoughts:
- Does the school use Mweb's educational value-add content? Value-priced ISPs tend to offer just the basics (which is fine by me - but just in case...)
- How about something with a big chunk of local bandwidth?

I'm guessing that as of now, your school uses DSL for mail and staff access only? 3GB doesn't go very far...
