Guys I've had a problem with my Internet connection. The routers internet light keeps switching off which results in a loss connection. It seems to be a PPPOE issue as it loses connection with the server

I've tried different ISPs
Switched routers
Had telkom come and check my line
Upgraded the firmware on router

Nothing works, I'm on the Internet and it just drops and connects again in varying time

Do you have a filter on any fax or voice lines? If not, get one. The filter doesn't go through the DSL, just the voice and fax. If you have a filter(s) replace it and test again.

My adsl line is separate from my phone line so that cant be the problem.

Povline: it won't be separate, unless you're paying for 2 telephone lines (telephone line rental + telephone line rental + ADSL line rental).

So make sure that you have microfilters attached to all the non-ADSL telephonic equipment (fax, telephone, alarm).

I unplugged everything from the phone line except my router and it still drops.

Test with a friend or family members account with another ISP preferably and see if it improves.

Alternatively use: username: guest@telkomsa password: guest

Try and browse www.telkom.co.za and www.telkomsa.net and see how long it stays active.

If it disconnects as well, you need to phone 0800 375 375 and report a line fault.

Tried 3 different isps (Mweb, Axxess and Telkom) Still no different.
Splitters are all fine as The telkom technician tested them. This is the most frustrating problem ever. Telkom have been out twice now both times saying theres nothing wrong but there has to be :(

All you can do is to report the line fault again and ask for it to be escalated.

Another option will be phone, without saying anything about a problem, just give them your phone number and ask the consultant to do a port reset. Once they've reset the port, check if it's working.

I tried a port reset already, I guess I'll ask for a technician again then.

Povlin, I would suggest that you log in on your ADSL modem's web interface, go to its ADSL statistics page, and then post the stats here.
Please ensure that you post the following things - both for upstream & downstream:
1) line attenuation
2) line speed
3) SNR (noise) margin

You're also welcome to take a screenshot and upload it to www.imagehost.co.za

Polvin - you must ask Telkom to reset the adsl port remotely. Whilst you are at it, ask them to Synchronise your line speed to a LOWER speed, which normally improves synchronisation and speeds. Also post the attenuation/SNR/line speed as requested by Pada.

You dont say what area you are in? I know the Bryanston/Fourways/Lonehill area has been having major problems for almost 2 weeks now
