IE6: The browser that won't die

Even Microsoft admits it would like to see the back of Internet Explorer 6 which turns eight this month.

Many businesses that still use Windows XP also rely heavily on Internet Explorer 6 for their systems and are reluctant to move because of the costs of re-tooling their processes to work on other platforms.

Access to web applications on the company intranet is the only reason why I still use IE6 at work and it doesn't look like we'll be upgrading things anytime soon so I doubt the company will be keen to move everyone to Vista/Windows 7 where IE6 is no longer available.

I havent installed anything MS related (apart from windows 7) in a while but somehow I have it at the back of my mind that you need to validate your copy of XP before you can upgrade internet explorer. Can anyone confirm that?

MS throws IE6 "killswitch" IE6 will only display a page from now on that says... "You must upgrade... click here"

i know of two FTSE100 companies that have IE6 as patr of their SOE. And it is not looking like changing anytime soon

Makes you wonder, we've come so far since XP. Windows XP was a really successful OS and to think IE6 is still going is kinda scary to see how long its lived for. 2014 is still a fair amount of time away so IE6 users(Yuck) enjoy it while it lasts.

MS claims piracy is the reason for IE-6. BS!
If Vista was worth what you paid for it, there would be no need to downgraded to a pirated version of XP after you paid for a legal "sh t" copy of Vista.

I have reduced the number of IE6 hacks in my sites to one.

All IE6 visitors get sent to a page which tells them how ****ty their browser is and tells them to upgrade.

Take the hard line people. Even if companies are using IE6 for internal (poorly designed) web apps that rely on it you can still install Chrome/Safari/FF alongside it.

Unless your IT dept. is run by sadists.

I don't support IE6, why does it even still exist, it is cr@p. Even IE 7 & 8 are better, and I don't like IE.

If a site I design does not work in IE6, I don't give a toss, upgrade already.

I'm in the IT dept and no other browser is allowed except IE6 for EVERYONE , I miss my precious tabing...
