Except, I'm not going to consider it any longer. tired of having to add "If IE6" exceptions all over my code. All this article did was inspire me to finally get moving with REMOVING IE6 support from all the sites I design. Firefox is the only way to browse...
 
You used to have to verify your windows to upgrade your IE... you don't have to anymore or, you don't need too if you've downloaded IE (offline installer) :D
 
At least it's good to know, post 2014, when Firefox enters version 7, Chrome runs on 70%+ of the world's portable computing devices, and Opera is still the over-capable under-used browser, that IE6 will die.

Rather than download updates, often the solution to problems is to re-image the machine using the pirated, pre-XP SP2 counterfeit. That also helps to drive the persistence of IE6

But the Zune HD comes with Internet Explorer 6 embedded. MS is actually shipping IE 6 as we speak.
 
First off, the reason why people still use IE6 isn't because of pirating or the use of Windows XP (which I prefer compared to their more bloated and useless operating systems not being able to run on hardware older than 2005)

It's simply because it's easier to use, loads faster and does the job, without (again), their IE7 and IE8 bloated browsers fapping about....

The day M$ makes a decent browser is the day I will whip out my cock at an old age home and go "buffet time ladies!"

I use jquery extensively. In terms of js it helps a lot with interactivity. The pngfix is a heaven send. CSS is still an issue, but I'm used to building fairly cross platform now and use as few hacks and conditional comments as possible. IE6 was made for tables not divs. IE6 is faster than the latest bloated versions, but less stable IMO.

I agree - MS did shaft itself by developing proprietary standards. I just wonder whether they are going to return to proprietary standards now that saas is gaining momentum and they won't want their precious Office Live to run on another browser or operating system...

It also seems that banks are catching up finally. I can actually pay somebody in firefox now.

In terms of standards compliance, I'm not sure everybody's there according to Acid 3. Maybe someday...

I can't believe the Zune HD uses IE6. Sies. How dumb are MS to repeat the same mistake on a different platform?
 
The long & short of it is that those who can upgrade probably have already. IE6 will still have a footprint waaay after 2014, hell IE4 & 5 are still showing up on some of our logs.

There are a lucky few who can afford to just ignore it, but anybody doing anything for most corporates will usually think "Will this work in IE6?" before doing anything really fancy for a client. Sadly.
