IE8 was released in Beta form on Wednesday and has Microsoft developers waiting with baited breath to see what the real world response will be.

I just uninstalled it, I wouldn't bother just yet... Slow as hell and pages with plenty of frames is buggy as hell.

Oh boy, I wonder what features they've stolen now.

Is there anyone here who uses IE7 out of preference to Firefox? And why?

Having just one browser, whether it be IE, or Firefox would not be a good thing. It's good that there is competition between browsers as it stimulates innovation, criticism, and standards.

It's the same with Windows/Linux. If there were only one, that dominated all, there would be just suckiness all over.

I'm glad IE is still in the running, so that at least Firefox has some competition and forces driving it. IE used to be the superior browser for a long time, and FF gave it a run for it's money.

It's only natural that Microsoft started working on it again, and competing on it again. By the way. Firefox 2 is a memory sieve. I used to say that about Internet Explorer...

well ii have 3 browsers i use, default browser is now ie8...its working ok i dont see any difference,no hijacking of malwarealarm so far..lol
opera is my grafical browser--when i have to be quick like on this forum, pages go back quicker.
Firefox is my budget browser when i dont need pics to load to save on my data bundles.
well folks there you have it...

Thanks arf. :)

Baited breath is something else entirely.

Yes - "bated" is correct according to my Concise OED:

bated
- adjective (in phrase with bated breath) in great suspense.

ORIGIN
C16: from the past participle of obsolete bate 'restrain', from abate.

USAGE
The correct phrase is with bated breath not with baited breath.
