Internet Explorer 9 RC launched

Yep, IE has definitely got there in the speed, no point denying that, it is the fastest browser in terms of rendering (with the GPU) and Javascript. If you guys don't believe the tests, try it and you'll see.
There is still some way too go on the standards although it is infinitely better than IE ever has been and is creeping up to the top as well.

For most of te population, IE is the only browser. Unless you know what the Internet Browser is, other than the big blue e, there is not much else to look at. Now they've made IE9 a really good browser and will not need to be replaced by others.

Thanks for that bit of irrelevant information.

Donno where you have been the last couple of months, but IE usage share has dropped below 50% to 46% and they are losing popularity FAST.

Few things that IE9 STILL haven't mastered (and why I prefer Google Chrome) :

1. The huge screen real estate IE9 steals at the top.
2. The tabs look plain ugly and dysfunctional half-way in the middle of nowhere.......and my biggest gripe....if I start closing tabs and click to close the tab, the next tab's close button should align exactly where the previous one was. That's how Chrome does it and how humans wants it to work.
3. This is perhaps a bit overboard, but I really like it when I copy a URL or text and paste it into my address bar, I get the option in Chrome to "Paste and search" or "Paste and Go". Absolute genius!!
4. No extentions!!

Already four deal-breakers without thinking hard.

Sorry Microsoft, just not good enough.

And he comes across as a big Microsoft fanboy.
Did you not read my post??
I said it isn't perfect, but it is at least a good alternative and one that will not require those less tech literate people to spend time upgrading browsers.
Instead of switching out IE immediately for some other browser, IE9 will now at least be able to be left on as default for the average user.

I guess nowadays simply saying that Microsoft's products aren't as bad as everyone makes them out to be makes you a fanboy.

TABs, effin' TABS, has always been my issue with IE from the day it was first copied from Mozilla, who have been doing tabs since the stone age, and quite sucessfully at that. I am a fan of Firefox, but do like how Chrome does tabs, I must admit, IE could learn from both browsers.

IE 9 RC looks nice but I have one problem with it. I installed it and my sidebar.exe process started using 500MB of ram (memory leak?). had to uninstall it.

Ok, so it's once you defend two excellent products that you become a fanboy. Will keep that in mind and only defend one at a time in the future.
Thanks for the tip!

List any number of things that makes IE9 superior against the other web browsers, from your personal experience.

Then I might take the fanboi comment back.

I have not once said it's a superior browser. It's an excellent browser, yes, so are Chrome and Firefox.

However, I will say why it is my main browser at this moment.
From my personal experience it is much faster than either Chrome 9 or FF 4. The current IE9 Javascript engine IS faster than Chrome but Chrome will probably get faster in the next version.
It uses full hardware acceleration, not partial like on the other browsers. This means that text, images, videos, etc are all handled by the GPU and not the CPU. This makes a big difference especially when dealing with video such as on Youtube. (Neat little thing that this allows is a video to continue playing while you move the browser or tab around, doesn't freeze the video and continue the sound. Irrelevant: maybe, cool: yes.)
Nice integration into Windows 7 with Jumplists and those other things. See www.beautyoftheweb.com for more examples.
Takes up less space for the top bar, just a few pixels smaller but allows one to see more of the site.

Like you asked, this is my personal experience, and explains why I am enjoying IE9 and using it right now. I've previously used Chrome and FF as my main browsers but I really have found them slow in comparison to the current release of IE9.

What I was saying about the majority of people is that they do not know / care what browser they have. If IE 7 comes on, they'll use it, no matter how bad it is. Tech friends would often come over and install a different browser simply because IE was a poor browser in comparison to the others. Now, IE9 is pretty similar to the other browsers and it is not neccesary to replace it with a new browser.

I hope that is sufficient for you.

Yeah I have to agree to most of these comments about IE9 RC. Thats why I still use Opera as my default browser.

And from an feature/innovation standpoint, IE9 can't compete with Opera 11. I also use Firefox and Chrome sometimes, but for general browsing I prefer Opera.

Opera was the first browser with tabs and still have the best tab management on any browser. And the tabs in IE9 is ugly and the half URL bar half tab bar is just plain stupid. You can just as well browse fullscreen, which will hide the hideous hybrid bar.

Its as if, IE saw the other browsers going smaller at the top and thought, lets copy the other, but overdo it like with everything. lol

Well here is the top 15 innovations of Opera: http://www.opera.com/portal/15/years/
And here is the features page of the newest Opera: http://www.opera.com/browser/features/

It's a pity that people still use browsers like IE, while there is browsers that are so much better, like Opera, Firefox and Chrome.

I hate the fact that the status bar does not tell you when pictures / other things are still loading. It's driving me mad.

Just a quick fact, they have the normal sized bar at the top of the IE window (above the tabs and search bar) so that people can still use it for Aero Snap and those features. Won't ever drag the tabs around when you're trying to snap it to the side of windows or fullscreening it like happens on Chrome.
It takes up space but it caters for the people who would complain about it.

Yes, that's quite an irritating thing, for sure. Never know if it's still busy / loading or not. No point having the status bar enabled withouth that.

yeah... overseas it might not be a problem, but here with our slow internet you now don't know wtf is going on! It's a total deal breaker for me, I don't care if it's faster than the other browsers.

I have been using IE 9 beta since it came out, just moved over to RC version, but I do have to agree with you regarding no status when things are loading... hope they fix this.
