Hi everyone, I hope someone can give me ideas to try or advice. We have a 25mb/10mb fibre connection via Openserve/Axxess. About four days ago, all my downloads slowed down from around 2.5mbps to 40kbps! It's like being in the days of dial up.

I contacted Axxess support, they asked me to create a guest account and run a speed test. Test came back as follows:
Download: 23.8mbps
Upload: 10.2mbps
Ping: 23.9ms
Jitter: 56.1ms

They say the speed test is showing no issue with the connectivity so therefore they cannot log a fault if one does not exist. They also told me it could be site I am using is outside of SA and that is why it is slow. I tried explaining that it does not matter where I download from, local or international sites (and I have tested!), the download speed does not go above 40-60kbps. Besides the fact that these are sites I have been using for years and were working just fine until a few days ago.

Also, I tried testing this on the other two family members laptop/pc in the house and both are having same download speed issue. Internet browsing unaffected, even streaming videos are fine, email is fast... but any direct file download is impossibly slow. I have tried downloading via Google, via a download manager, via Edge... all the same result.

Axxess have in a round about way said, sorry, can't help, your problem. So I have no idea what to do next...

There's your first issue, axxess. 2nd issue your jitters is very high. Was this test done via lan cable or wifi test?

Drop me a PM. Happy to set up a test account. That will let you confirm it's a line issue or network issue.

Probably last mile packet loss. Downloads use TCP and last mile packet loss impacts the throughput. Are they tricks to circumvent this but not on common garden version routers.

Best way to see it is to measure from the outside in. If you have access to a VPS do a trace back to your public IP and see if there is loss withing the OS network. If you want I can do that for you if you DM me the IP.
