I'm doing this from my cellphone. The router's lights are all on and blinking appropriately. Everything seems okay except I can't connect to the internet. What could be wrong?

When you check your ip address is all the settings there?
I had a problem with the auto ip not giving me my gateway and dns settings.

When you log into your router it should say if your a lan/wan client and your ip address...
Have you tried a PPPOE connection for your accounts?
Made sure from your isp that there is nothing wrong on there side?

I don't log into my router. I hav it set up to dial from within XP. I won't even bother calling Telkom. They're useless.

First step in troubleshooting:

What changed/have you done since it last worked?

It's just trying to connect but keeps failing. It's the normal msg when it can't connect. I think it's error 679.

Nothing.

Phone Telkom, 0800 375 375. I normally get through in <2min, good luck.

Could be an exchange fault.

Why not try temporarily taking your router out of bridge mode or half-bridge and try connecting directly through the router? If it connects, it's most likely a Windows/Networking/PPPOE problem.

also, check the router stats to see that it is syncing and at what speed it's syncing.

If you're using a ISP account which is locked to a specific line port, it could be the case that your line port has changed and hence the account won't be able to connect. This has happened to me before when Telkom allocated me to a different port out of the blue.

Pull the power from the router, wait a while (30sec) and then plug it back on again. That has worked for me many times before.

I tried all that and nothing worked. Tried rebooting my PC as well.

I ended up calling Telkom's support and used their call-me-back service. About 25 minutes later they called back and when I spoke the assistant, she said that there was an outage in my area. It only came back up about an hour ago :)

Thanks to all of you who replied.

Thought so.
