Firstly, let me ask if there exists a glossary which can give meaning to the plethora of acronyms which seem to be a selection of any three or four alphabet letters. I might then be able to understand the communications in the forums and, possibly, select the correct forum to view. at the moment I am guessing I am in the correct place!

Secondly, the reason for this question. I have subscribed to Telkom LTE 4G Internet connection using a Huawei B593 Router. I do NOT use a land line. I get a maximum of two bars on the signal strength indicator. My Internet connection appears slow. I live in Randhart, Alberton. What is the correct and most accurate way to measure or monitor my Internet speed?

Using the Telkom speed indicator I get a download speed of about 13Gbps. (the advertisement said speeds of up to 90Gbps were available and an initial trial gave 19.8Gbps). The broadband indicator gives speeds of 6.4 - 7.5Gbps download and 0.24Gbps upload while Internet Speed Tracker gives 2Gbps (max) download and 1Gbps upload. I tend to believe Internet Tracker as my system is slow!

Am I correct in assuming that Telkom is deliberately slowing my type of service to try to force me into a new contract with its newer and more expensive services?

Please would only those with the correct knowledge respond.

Thank you.

Try http://www.speedtest.net/

Same test slightly diffrent speeds. Remember host connection also have impact on displayed speed. Then again I suspect ISP's know when you are testing and will unshape and unthrottle that port for the test as I never get full speed during the day but always get good speedtests.

Oh and it is storming like crazy now.

13Gbps on LTE is technically impossible. Mbps is the measurement used...

13Gbps

Let me live with you? Got lotsa money... will pay!

Just move the router around till you get better signal.

Then. Are you testing over your WiFi or are you using a LAN cable directly to your pc?

This is my test speed. Close to the ideal LTE ref. speed.

1) I'm 1km away from Tower.
2) With internal or paddle stick 4 bar signal. Get 60Mbps download speed on average.
3) You need to find your tower in question. Loots of write up on forum.
4) With external antenna connected I get from 75Mbps up to Max download speed.
5) What I found with external antenna connected I get higher download speed but in a narrow band.
6) With external antenna connected I get 5 bar signal.
7) My latency did not improve with external antenna.
8) See attachment pic, you want to see a flat top mountain when looking at the graphs. No zig-zag type of graph.
9) I'm on 50+50 gig Telkom account.
10 As said need to move your router around house to find best signal.
11) I'm connected to Ethernet port on router. Even my Wi-Fi downloads to cell phone run on 1MBps.
12) I also don't have LOS to tower. Pointed antenna in right direction.

My 2 cents. :D

You need to contact Telkom 0.24Gbps upload wrong.
Could be tower related. When I started of I also had the same problem.
3Mbps down and 256Kbps upload. I wanted to cancel my contract. I'm in a LTE area.
The I looked again and found signal map changed. Tested again and it was perfect. Telkom did something.

I have not looked back, when I hade ADSL. Will not go back to ADSL 3.5Mbps max I can receive. To far away from exchange. (4Km)
