Inverter + battery VS UPS

Howard,
They contacted me and promised to deliver to my home a unit that they have been "testing for two days."
I just wonder what type of testing can be done that takes two days.
I wait in anticipation.

Let us know how it goes - they're probably letting the thing run in cycles to check that it charges up and holds the charge.
 
Howardb, in my previous post I explained how I trecked to Tedelex service centre and was given another unit
which I fouind to be stone dead. This was the start of a long string of e-mails between me and various personel
at Tedelex. The head office got the Durban service people to deliver me another unit.
This one was also stone dead.
More e-mails - Management agreed that a new unit could be provided direct from factory.
Months later I resumed with the same e-mail string - stating I was still waiting in anticipation.
A helpfuill lady got things moving and another unit was delivered in a new box, but the box was
all that was new - One castor was broken, another missing with just the metal stud in position.
The unit had obviously been dropped before being boxed, as there were no broken pieces
in the box. Anyway, I connected this unt - also DEAD - unbelievable -
More e-mails - apologies from Tedelex - factory personel got a mouthful -
I finally got unit no 3 delivered. It seems to work fine -{ just a few loose and missing screws holding
the casing sides and only one adaptor on unit}
I will eventually run a test and monitor the results.
What service!!!
 
Hi Fellow Forumites

I wonder if anyone can tell me what size of inverter would be required to run 4 computers plus a server and how much it would cost me?

ps. If I have a generator what would I need to generate clean power for the above setup

I bought 2 more Intellipowers for my office. One runs 4 pc's with 19inch LCD's a switch, an ADSL router, and a portable phone without any sign of strain. I reckon I could plus another high specc pc in easily. I have run for 4hrs so far with the mains pulled out. Want to try a full working day next to see how she copes.
 
Th e intellipower 1200w can it be used as a back up for a db circuit. So if the power is off it kicks in and powers all the lights on that circuit
 
Hi guys, new here, came across this post, maybe someone will have an answer for me.
I have a fairly good UPS that can run all my mini home servers, network, 3 pc's and a few other things should the power go off for about 30 mins, the UPS have it's own 2x 12V 7.2aH batteries build in.
Now I started thinking if I can make those 2x 12V 7,2aH batteries bigger, by using a much bigger capacity batt like a 105 or 102 aH battery I should get enough power during a loadsheding time of 2 - 4 hours, or do I have the hole thing wrong.
My plan is NOT to let the UPS charge the battery back up again after the load-shed but instead have a proper intelligent charger connected to the battery when we have eskom power.

Problem is these ups running of 7ah bateries have a max charging current of like 2.7amps it will take ages to top up those 100ah bateries
