Inverter/regulator and software to use

This thread is to help others getting good, working software for their inverters/regulators should there be a need for logging of performance stats.

Please help others by mentioning your brand, and the correct software to download with the full URL.
 

I managed to get that to work with an axpert.

Vaguely recall having to tweak some of the code though

There is also ICC...think that was actually coded by a mybb dude. It looks very Win3.1 though
 
There’s logging and then there’s logging. Most inverters offer their own cloud based solution for you to draw data off of. The question should rather be, what it is you want to do with logging? Because for most people they study the stats religiously for the first few weeks then lose interest. As long as it works they couldn’t care less.

Now, if you want to start doing automations, it becomes a completely different discussion.

In my case, I got a Goodwe (PS. Don’t buy Goodwe). Because I needed more granular data than what was offered by the cloud based solution, it required development of an integration into HA. It’s a work in progress but it’s now powerful enough to prove to Goodwe that their firmware is up to sheet. Not that they give a toss, but I didn’t know it at the time.

Anyway, it does allow some pretty impressive automations to be done and it allows me more control over how the inverter uses the batteries for example.

My point is, logging is all nice and all. But it’s pointless if you not going to use it in a smart way.

Agreed! I have a Victron system. Their logging is also cloud based, which was studied in detail for a few weeks, until interest waned.

But... When Eskom drops away there's a spike on the battery current. I only have a single 100 Ah Narada lithium, and that momentary spike is just long enough to sometimes cause the battery's overcurrent protection mechanism to trigger. With loadshedding that became pretty frustrating, so I ended up writing a script for Openhab to switch the inverter over to invert-only mode via MQTT (effectively disconnecting my house from Eskom). Problem solved without needing to buy another battery.

So control is more important for me than logging, but that is simply because of my specific use case. Something else that is important to me is to be able to see the current parameters (battery SoC, solar yield, AC load) on my local network via and HTTP client. That allows me to decide whether I switch the geyser on now, or only a bit later when the clouds have cleared, or...

What I like most about the Victron is that it mixes solar/battery and Eskom on the AC side. So if my load is 7 kW, it will take 4 kW from solar/battery and 3 kW from Eskom. Most systems that mix on the DC side will switch the whole load over to Eskom if the load exceeds the inverter rating.

I’d probably be pumping it all into Home Assistant and buying an inverter accordingly that supports MQTT.
I suspect it will be modbus or canbus eventually. Batteries for sure over modbus.

You'll still need Middleware i.e. Home Assistant or similar, or the vendors solution to parse and format, unless you roll your own.
 
anyone know of monitoring software that works for Synapse 1000W pure sinewave inverter?
Have tried viewpower and Powermonitor, the inverter isnt being picked up

Watchpower should work. I had a Synapse 3.2 and it came with Watchpower

Still looking for software for this one.

This one got built-in wifi. Want to see if it can be changed to be joined to our existing wifi LAN, but that's for another day.

So far this one and the Synapse is working quite well, no complaints. Just need to open them every year and blow out the dust bunnies.
