Hi guys

Any advice?

I was involved in a car accident (my first ever) on Friday, thankfully no injuries... I have no insurance on my vehicle that received the brunt of the damege.

The other driver who was at fault has given me his insurance details and has expressed liability and is prepared to pay for my damages.

MY question is regarding the police affidavit that his insurance requires. The consultant mentioned that I need to submit an affidavit stating that I have no insurance, but then she said that it should state that it will be a claim trough third party?

Is this correct? As far as I know, Third Party claims are only in instances where there were injuries? And the claim would then be for loss of income etc. and not to repair the vehicle?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.:whistle:

by Third Party - they are reffering to you as you are not on their book and is their client who is at fault. You dont need to panic. Just submit the requied documents , insurance will pay you.

Thnx Venda.

So could I just leave out that part entirely? Surely if I submit my documents the insurance company would know I am the third party?

ffs get some insurance, at very least third party and theft.

glad you ok. third party means you are claiming from their insurance.

In the process of getting...(only got my driver's license on Thursday... :-)

if you only got your license last week why do you say my first ever, like it is a good thing :D

Just to add - You have to report the accident within 24 hours

FFS... what is it with ppl and no insurance on their vehicles these days?

Insurer = party 1
Client = Party 2

Any external party not pertained to in an "agreement of anything", be it sale, insurance, finance whatever, is the 3rd party.

You got your license on Thursday and had an accident on Friday? When did you get your car? Sorry dude. You are lucky you were not a fault but you need your freaking insurance.

Let me just mention that I drive a 2006 opel corsa lite. I am a 21 year old male doing a apprenticeship. Wonder where I will get the R1300 a month they are trying to charge me and not to mention the 4k excess I have to pay for a claim.

That said I know why people are sometimes reluctant to take insurance as it costs more that the car installment sometimes.... Jeez....

Anyways. They will offer to repair your car if its repairable or they will offer you a cash payout. Just remember that if they choose to repair and you are not happy with something you can complain.... They must repair to its previous state so if they choose to put bodyfiller everywhere you can speak to the accessor and complain and say no you want new door or something...

I saw people not caring about what happens behind the scenes and it gets shocking if you see what insurance companies try to do.

Cavedog, 3rd party fire and theft is not 1.4k. Most likely in the region of R200-R300 tops. If you can't afford the insurance, you should not be driving. It is not fair on others to suffer a financial loss due to your error.

A accident is a accident. If it my fault then yes I understand what you mean. My mother was involved in a car accident with her brand new i20. The guy crossed a yellow line and knocked the front. The damage was R82 000 and even though it was his fault he simply said sue me if you want the money. My mother just claimed from her insurance.

What I'm trying to say that why must I get a 3rd party insurance to cover some 1 else when in the most likely case when some 1 knocks me or cause me to make a accident I would just get the word sue me.....

And btw I don't think its fair for you to say who can and can not drive on the road. I'm fully licenced and and legal so I will drive and if I'm in accident forgive me for not having extra cash to spend on insurance..

Having a license does not make you a responsible driver. Not having a minumum of third party, makes you irresponsible and calous to others.

Suddenly not having 3rd party insurance makes me irresponsible.

Definately. In your own words, you may have an accident, purely out of your control but you would happily inflict that monetary loss on a third party. Third party won't pay someone who hits YOU, it pays those who YOU hit.
