IOL not hacked says editor

IOL editor Alastair Otter explains that the site has not been hacked, but that third party content is responsible for malware on the website

This is a bit crap, it happened to a site of mine due to serving an ad from a version of OpenX that had an exploit.

Rather bad PR for IOL unfortunately.

I have reported IOL twice for sertving mobile malware through their advertising banners... I eneded up blocking whole advertising domains to stop IOL trying to install 'Battery Saver on Android'

Iol needs to bea lot more carfeful who they take thord party advertising from. Bottom line. This is by no means the first time.

I've also notified them in the past. Along with New24 and profile data.

Quick response.

Unfortunate for IOL as it seems it is third party content.

Unfortunately for IOL they are responsible for anything that appears on their own site, even if it came from a third party who paid them to have it there.

Oh lord, OpenX is the biggest piece of crap in the world. Everyone I know that's used it has been hacked at some point. If an exploit comes to light and you're even a few hours late patching it, the buggers get in there, whoever targets the OpenX vulnerabilities is quick off the mark.

I usually use or tell people to use doubleclick.net by Google.

I had a quick look at IOL's homepage - they have at least 7 sites they inject jscript code into the page from and execute. Recipe for disaster, and it also explains why the page is so tragically slow sometimes.
