No idea tbh - my wife has a 13 but she 'just uses the thing' for standard stuff and hasn't asked me about Always-On or Standby so I haven't checked.

Btw, I seem to remember that you actively chose the 13Pro over the 14Pro last year with the view that you would go with the 15 when it was released.

Have you changed your mind?

Edit: Bard says that you can use Standby mode with the 13Pro (btw, all iPhones that support it have to be plugged in / charging wirelessly to use Standby)

Edit2: lol - I didn't have to Google it - it says so right in the Feature Table I posted earlier - https://mybroadband.co.za/forum/threads/ios-17.1255952/post-31852868 - Standby mode supported all the way back to the XS and SE Gen 2

Yea - that's exactly how it works .

Standby on the iPhone 13 Pro turns off - and you need to tap to wake it.

It's pretty useless really and it seems odd that they didn't add Always On to save battery - but a feature that only works with charger doesn't work well?

I needed a phone ASAP and I would have waited for the iPhone 14 Pro if included USB C as per rumour. But closer to lauuch more rumours pointed to the 14 skipping USB C (plus there there were rumoured increases), so I thought I'd just go with the iPhone 13 Pro. I may do the iPhone 15 - but not right now as my phone id 14 months old. If I do, it would be closer to the 16 ... or even just wait until the 16.
 
Real world use: Does the iPhone 14 Pro offer a significantly better camera than the 12 Pro?

The AlwaysOn eventually switched itself off on the 14Pro as well prior to iOS 17 (if I remember correctly I had to tap to wake it even when plugged in if it was the middle of the night*) - with iOS 17 it appears to sense my movement when I turn my head in that direction and switches itself on (in that cool red mode)

* I could be wrong though, I just didn't do it often enough to be 100 percent sure
 
Standby Mode is there on the 11 but even with the (wireless charger) doesn't stay on.

I would imagine it relates to potential screen burn-in maybe? But then that's why the thing rotates the whole time by design isn't it?

Maybe on a cabled charger it's different, will see next week when I'm travelling.

Standby works with Always On, afaik.

iPhone 14 & 15 have an 'Always On' setting within the Standby options that the other phones don't .

Will StandBy mode always stay on?​

StandBy mode will only stay on for iPhone models that support always-on display, meaning at the time of writing, the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. For older models, StandBy mode will automatically turn off after 30 seconds of inactivity.

I've found one annoyance with iOS 17, Apple have somehow removed the ability to use custom tones for notification tones and only for ringtones. It appears to be a bug from what people have said who contacted Apple but is not fixed by iOS 17.0.1.

If you currently have a custom tone set for a notification tone (like text messages) your previously set custom tone will still work but if you change it you can't return to it (or any custom tone) until Apple fix the bug.

17.0.2 was released for the 15 at the same time 17.0.1 was released generally, it seems to have been the same bug fixes but needed a different release number for the 15.

Yes, but I’m talking about 17.0.2 for all other models, which was released tonight (well I’m typing this after midnight so technically last night :) ), go and check under your updates.

Synced Content now appears, uses sizable storage

A new item appeared in my iPad storage listing called "synced storage". It takes up nearly 8gb and reduces on device available storage. Is anyone else seeing the same entry and how might one get rid of it? I do not see the same entry on my iPhone which is also running the same beta.

This is fixed in iOS 17.1
 
Weird bug on 17.02:

If I swipe down to get to the control centre and swipe the volume all the way down (the mute icon appears), it automatically goes back up to different levels sometimes on its own.
