ios 4.2

After I updated iPad I lost my cydia icon and installous icon ? Did anyone else get this ?

Apple does not like us jailbreaking our devices.... :)

You need to wait for a new jailbreak to be released (or follow steps to do a tethered jailbreak, not recommended. )

Did you get the same problem ? No cydia icon
 
Cydia will be displayed if and only if you install it which you can only do if you are jailbroken. By updating to 4.2.1 you removed your jailbreak and hence the hacks needed to have Cydia present in the first place. You are experiencing expected behavior.

Ok thanks ... But if it's not " jailbroken " anymore why do my apps still appear . Those apps I got when I jailbroke my iPad . It should technically be removed as well no ?
 
I've tried the download in itunes a few times. It keeps failing and then I need to start the download again. it never resumes.

Any ideas/options how to download other than itunes?

Direct download...

MikeCTZA posted the links in an earlier post... Save the file to your machine, like you'd save any other file you download, then hold the Shift key on a PC or the Alt key on a Mac when you hit the Update button in iTunes. You'll be able to browse your machine to the directly downloaded IPSW file and select it for the update.

Yup, I've just downloaded the 4.2 update for my iPhone 3G with MikeCTZA's link - worked 100% (thank you, MikeCTZA!).

iOS 4.2 is running ok on my iPhone 3G, Google Streetview is very fast, camera & Safari not too shabby. However, when you close the camera app, the phone stutters a bit & after the update, my phone didn't know it had 5GB of music on it. Had to restart the phone and sync with iTunes again, after that it displayed all my songs again. Yay!

Sure, glad to help out, would have replied had I seen your posting, been one of those days though .... I am still to do any of my devices (still on 3.1.2 on my iP3G and 4.1 on my iP4) . I am waiting for the JailBreak as I kinda really do want all my Cydia apps that I am so used to (that I own legit copies of, where applicable): LockInfo, QuickDo, ScreenDimmer, FirewallIP, BiteSMS, SBSettings and then a custom SMS tone which I like. I could do the 3G now but seeing as I don't use it much I'm not too rushed for that. I'll wait a bit.
 
Thanks downloading now. Apologies for not reading the thread properly. I did go through it. Obviously not closely enough.
 
Installed and jailbreaked (broke?) 4.2 on my 3G. Everything seems to be fine although redsn0w crashed at the end. I find that when I type a sms there is a small lag sometimes (had 3.1.3 till now) but not that bad - some people might not even notice.
 
The notes app also has a funky new font! Love it!

*You can choose between three different fonts for notes in the settings.

Mike's links work great. Downloaded overnight and installed in about 5 minutes this morning.
 
hey guys need your help....upgraded to iOS 4.2 and my data connectivity stopped working.....no data services working.....

Using wifi....any ideas?
 
ios 4.2 users: What's your gut feel on the new ios release since upgrading it? My phone seems slightly faster. Is this possible?

I upgraded from 3.1.3 (3G) and get the feeling it is mostly faster except for a couple of things. For instance when I skip tracks it takes a second longer to start the new song.

Just need the cydia apps and tweaks to get 4.2.1 compatible. Had a problem with lockinfo which I tried installing over the weekend for the first time but it didn't work and made my cydia crash. Also the custom ringtone app I used doesn't seem to work now.

But for the iOS itself I am impressed - was very worried that the 3G wouldn't handle it.
