iOS 6 maps app voice navigation in SA

Apple Maps voice navigation in SA

Turn-by-turn navigation with voice now available on devices running iOS 6 in SA.

That is good news... well sort of.

My cars all have built in SATNAV but sometimes I find other Map sources easier.
I have tried Apple Maps a few times and its worked fine for what I need it for.

Wpould still rather have GoogleMaps turn by turn but that wasnt an option even if Apple stuck with Google.

lol, how about first fixing the other major issue.

They are hardly mutually exclusive. Its not as if flipping a switch is slowing them down fixing the teething problems.
All they have done is flipped the switch enabling SA.

I did a quick test on the interface and it was very good. (although my iPhone 4 has no voice)
I ried it on a friends iPhone 4s and voice was fine.

The real test of course is when I use it in anger. Will report back then
Anecdotal stories are all well and good but the real test is does it work when you use it here.

I hesitated updating to iOS 6 because of the maps change. I use maps all the time, and really liked the Google maps layout. I ended up upgrading to iOS 6 two days ago, and I am sorry I did. However, I have no doubt that Apple will fix it and make it as good as, or better than Google maps. They have come out and apologised for it, so I know they will be fixing it as a priority.

What I miss from the old Google maps is the street view, and the general layout of the maps - rendering, colouring, accuracy etc was much better for me. I have a street in my suburb that goes into our lake in the iOS 6 MAPS...

Its Streetview that I will miss although I can get it via the WebApp

Rendering has not been an issue for me... yet (Have read about the issues)
Map Colouring. I actually prefer Apple Maps there. Cleaner

No thank you, I don't want to get lost.

Do you have an iPhone?
Would you get one if Google's Turn by Turn worked on the iPhone? (which Google refused)

If not how does it apply to you?

Don't upgrade to iOS6 yet, just because of the new map applet.

There's still lots of lovely issues which need sorted out. Wifi is one of them.

I have had absolutely no issues with wifi on my 2 devices running iOS 6 in several locations so that might not be a problem for most people.

I got myself Navigon South Africa, haven't had any problems with it so far.

you read too much of American blogs, some specific iPhone 5's had wifi issues which were fixed yesterday...none of previous iPhone models running iOS 6 have wifi issues

Had no Wi Fi issues post iOS6 on
- iPhone 4
- iPad 2 & 3
- iPod Touches (kids)

The above devices hit the WiFi quite hard at home

What wifi router/AP are you using at home?

I initially had problems with wi-fi on all my iOS 6 devices - iPhone x2 and iPad......until I rebooted my wireless routers. It has been fine ever since. I have two three network (UK) Huawei E586 (unlocked) portable 3G wifi routers, and one Dovado wireless router. They all gave issues when I first tried connecting with iOS 6. After a reboot of all of them they have worked fine ever since

Rebooted mine several times without joy :(

Cool, I use the Australian Siri but I think the British guy narrates my turn by turn. Have yet to use it but will give it a shot in the next couple of days.
