iOS 7.04

Still missing the ability to update twitter or fb from top menu. Brainfart of note that. Idiots. In contemplating selling and going s4 mini. I've seen it, I go meh. Inability to handle nzb's is just pi$$ing me off. Need to use my tab for that.

I suspect Apple saw very few people using it and therefore removed it.

I certainly only ever used it once.

Tried OTA - but iPhone didn't allow it - said I needed a minimum of 84*(?) mb space on my device [which I don'y have]... Will try through iTunes eventually - just waiting for TI to finish upgrading everything, so that my ADSL speeds can hopefully return to normal... :(

Erm, you will still need to free up some space on your phone.

My wife's 4S is still on 6.1.3 (10B329) and on Vodacom network. She says that lately a couple of issues are popping up like app force closes, the phone is laggy, apps take long to open, etc.

If I am correct, 7.04 is the latest greatest. From what I've seen there are mixed responses from people who updated.

Who here has a 4S who updated? What version are you on? Any issues on Vodacom network?

Also, if it is not worth while to update, what should we do to get rid of the issues she currently has (Yes, I know "Go Android" is the answer, but let's stick to iOS for now)

iOS 7.0.4 on a 4S, also on Vodacom. For what it's worth - no issues for me.

Sorry you guys are to quick to help

bwana, please delete the new thread. We can carry on here

No lagging whatsoever?

Guess that's a bit of a subjective question... I have "Reduce Motion" turned on, which stops the parallax effect, and appears to do the trick. To be honest, I did notice a bit of lag when first updating to 7.0.1, but since then - it's never bothered me. Now whether the latter is due to my having enabled "Reduce Motion", or my having become used to the 'speed', or the updates of apps to iOS 7-readiness having fixed things - or a combination of all 3 - who knows! :)

Some might/have disagree(d) with me - particularly those who have played around on a iPhone 5 for any length of time (to then go back to the 4S), but it's not an issue for me... Hope that helps.

The reason I am asking is because we can't roll back to a previous version. We can try to reset the device to see if the issues dissappear before we upgrade, but if the upgrade takes care of these kind of issues, we might as well go for it

Jailbreak and install accelerate. Reboot, enjoy.

Hang on a little, 7.1 is on it's way; currently being beta tested. Aside from new functionality and bug fixes, it feels substantially faster.

I did not experience any issues on my 4S with 7.04; 7.1 on the 4S does feel faster though; just wait a little.

Woah! Like my wife is going to let me loose on her baby... :D
Would it be easy enough to update her apps after jailbreaking?

Thanks. I take it you are testing beta?

Yes... and happy with it. I'm fairly sure they want this available during the Xmas shopping period.

It's an incredibly simple process.

Download Evasion here...

Extract the contents of the rar file, connect the 4s to the pc, right click evasi0n.exe and select run as administrator, follow on screen prompts and about 3 minutes later you done.

All apps etc remain unchanged except now you have one extra app called Cydia. Open Cydia and let it update, when prompted select User as end user type. Then to add the required repo open cydia>manage>sources>edit>add and type in http://cydia.insanelyi.repo and click add source...

Then use the search feature to find accelerate and install...

Once installed in settings find accelerate and select the performance bump you require.

What accelerate does is speed up the numerous animations baked into iOS. It's not actually doing any overclocking or tweaking but merely creating the illusion that things are moving a lot quicker than usual. It's incredibly effective. You wont believe the difference. I would try that before updating to iOS 7.0.4/1.

Did you ever use fakeclockup or accelerate on your jailbroken devices?

It's the most low maintenance performance upgrade one can make. Free piece of software, no additional hardware required, light weight and easy to install, simple in execution but extremely effective.

When you say 7.1 feels substantially faster I wonder if Apple engineers are simply applying the same principles as accelerate IE altering animation speeds?

EDIT: Made a video quick demonstrating how it works on my 4s..

Something else to consider. If you do upgrade to 7.0.4 it would be prudent not to restore the phone from backup but rather setup as a new phone.

That does mean messages, photos, videos, contacts etc would be lost. Of course if you syncing contacts with Outlook that wouldn't be a problem, or if you using iCloud to backup your contacts, reminders, calendars etc...

Not sure if you using Dropbox to backup Photos and videos but one could cut and paste from iPhone to pc as a means of backing them up.

WhatsApp has an in the cloud backup feature but not sure if there's any way to backup iMessages other than via an iTunes backup which would mean restoring from backup and not setting up as new phone...

There's defintely a lot of ground work to be done if you want to keep data but setup as new phone but the rewards are reputed to be better battery life and overall stability as well as better performance.

It stands to reason, if your device has become slow and unresponsive on account of corrupted software, orphaned registries, huge text directory etc etc etc doing a fresh install and then restoring all the crap that caused the issues in the first place is not solving anything...
