saurik also said they have contacted him via email and updating Cydia and Substrate is his highest priority but it's not the best time as he is currently traveling back home from a conference.

So, windknown has contacted me, about a half hour ago, via e-mail. He has told me one of the issues that is keeping Substrate from working on the device, which will probably require me to build a little binary patch for dyld as part of the Substrate installation sequence. This was the worst possible day for me, as I'm traveling back to Santa Barbara today (I'm currently in Texas, having come here to give a talk at The Big Android BBQ), which means this will take me a little longer than I'd like, but clearly getting Cydia and Substrate working on iOS 8 is my highest priority. I thankfully think that I actually can start working a little on one of the Substrate issues using an iOS 7 "model" based on the information provided by windknown, which means I'll lose less time to not having all of my devices with me. (I currently have no clue why Cydia itself is not functioning, but will find out later today when I can see it myself.)

Ahh real life always gets in the way! :)

I'm very excited for this new jailbreak. The jailbreak scene was near bordering extinction imo, and this will really help inject some life back into it and the Apple scene on the whole! Can't wait to start testing out all the new iOS 8 tweaks and doing some write ups for the site :)

Pulled from iClarified:

Saurik has already indicated that he will work hard to get Cydia compatible as soon as possible.

I'm still running 6.0.1 and have never seen the need to upgrade.... the tablet, she does what I need her to do....

Great news. Will only update when 8 and the JB have been out for a few weeks, but at least we know that 8 will be broken and we won't get stuck if we update.

Nice.

I've been jailbreaking since iOS 4 and this is by far the fastest a jailbreak has ever been released.

Mmmmm, I'm of the opinion that it is a little premature. I mean how far off is a 8.1.2/8.1.3/8.2?? iOS 8 is still very much in its infancy as a version of iOS.

Inevitably Apple will patch this sooner rather than later. Awesome that it out so soon though!

The "Pangu team" strikes me as quite an aggressive bunch of hackers that's not only capable of cracking iOS but not scared to burn exploits doing it. Are they confident of always finding new ways in?

Very aggresive team, I think it has a lot to do with them being a China based team, if i remember correctly when they released the iOS 7 jailbreak which uses an Apple enterprise certificate loophole someone from the Evad3rs team said they also discovered how to do the jailbreak through the same loophole but it wasn't legal for them to do so.

This is why I'm thinking it's good they are China based because it looks like they don't really care how to do it, just that it gets done, a weird thing I noticed with the iOS 8 jailbreak is they said to turn off Find my iPhone before jailbreaking, which I don't recall being necessary in the past so I think they have a new trick they found.

Edit: Quote from MuscleNerd when the iOS 7 jailbreak was released:

The use of the (expired) enterprise certificate is the most unique part of Pangu JB (but it’s something we avoid for legal reasons)

Saurik has already released an update to cydia that needs to be installed manually on the iOS 8.1 jailbreak. This means that we can expect the proper jailbreak to be released within a few days.

Apparently manually installing Cydia is causing boot loops for some.

Personally be holding off with this for a week or two.

Sure very little is iOS 8 compatible in any event. Look forward to seeing that list...

+1! I would really hold off for now, even if you get it running a lot is not going to work most likely. So let others report and iron out the bugs for us :)
