iPad 2 disadvantages

We don't see you as real IT folk either - but you pretend you are! Real IT folk want full control of their computers, tablets, phones and electronics. We like to customize and don't want to be told what we can and can't do

Real IT folk? I take it you haven't been to any major developer conferences around the world then?

I guess ignorance really is bliss.

Not until tomorrow ...

But I think most was covered during the 15 pages prior. I'm still getting it - but my friends are worried I turn into an iPerson ...

Well i think you have bought into some of the propaganda and are just rehashing ill considered jibes. Its as juvenile as those who think they are better than others because of the power of their graphics cards. :)

It depends on what you want from your gear.

Macs put a focus on perfectionism, simplicity, and great design. They focus on the little things, the small details, all aligned to create a computer which is dead easy and yet powerful. I think macs achieve most of those goals, and if thats what a person is looking for then i think they are correct to feel they are sitting in a pound of butter. Beyond that - well its just a tool and really not a reason to feel better than people.

I used to love buying hardware, messing about at anandtech, studying the benchmark minutia for hours on end before buying and then building a fire breathing beast, but now have different interests. I'm into the little things: the idea of beauty, simplicity and efficiency. Other computers can do some stuff better, granted, but it probably won't be as free from hassles, simple, or as beautiful which is why people love their macs so much.

But tbh i don't know if an iPad will convert you. Tablets are still pretty limited devices in some ways. The iPad is a great coffee table content consumption device, thats for sure, but if you want to create content they are all pretty limited. But i know you know that. Enjoy your iPad, it'll be a great netbook replacement. :)

Mac Cinema Display, iPhone, iPad = IPS LCD
Everything else = TN LCD

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TFT_LCD#Types

From the horses mouth.
http://www.apple.com/imac/features.html

The iMac display looks great from any seat in the house, thanks to a premium display technology called in-plane switching (IPS). IPS gives you a bright picture with excellent color — even if you’re viewing the display from the side.

I can look at my iMac from any angle and i see essentially no image change, its definitely not a tn panel.

Hardware is not the real differentiator -- that honor belongs to software (incl. apps). Apple overall has a foot up here imo, but Android is catching up.

You are right - it is because of the poor software (iTunes) that I will never buy an Apple product again.

Each to their own... Hope you're happy, if so no reason to fault anyone else's decision or opinion.

A more productive answer would be to state what you deem to be better and why. (ps hope you pick a product with equal functionality)

Oh, I am quite happy, am using brilliant hardware and software.

Only problem is that the stuff improves so quickly that I can't keep up - now I want a kevlar ultra-thin RAZR (with ICS) !

That's good... So please enlighten us as to the better alternative to iTunes? I have a tab 10.1 and am interested to know what you think is better than ITunes in the Android world for the same features; from your posts it appears your problem with iTunes related to upgrades / which are always problematic due to load issues i.e. too many people downloading / authorizing at the same time, we've all had this problem and there are known work around for this (you followed one of these)

Btw if you were really focused on the software instead of hardware, your desire should be when you could get 4.0 on your Xoom.

I don't want an alternative to iTunes, there is nothing good about iTunes.

You didn't notice that I said that I wanted the kevlar RAZR with ICS ? ICS = Android 4.0. But to be fair, I like Android 3.2.

Also, I regard the Xoom hardware to be superior to the iPad 2 hardware, for a number of reasons (but let's not go into that here).

The point I was making which you missed is that the Android market is fragmented -- which is what really irritates me about owning a tab.

Samsung with google are releasing a single device supporting ics; what should really be happening is that google gets the hardware vendors to work in parallel to jointly release ics on all compatible devices as happens in the iOS world. That my point about apple having a foot up on android; hope that makes sense.
Each platform has its merits, but Android sucks in this regard.

Itunes on windows is dog slow, i hated all the years i was forced to used it. But on the mac its actually not half bad. I just don't like the way it handles a friends device. Doesn't play nice in that area.

The device integration has always been less than ideal, thankfully the move to unwired in ios5, means remote upgrades and with iCloud there is less need for iTunes in that sense, but as a media player it's still good IMO.

Jak3, I'm with you there. Apple products are designed by Jonathan Ives ... beautiful hardware and software ... perfection ... minimalistic ... simple ... clean ... solid ... reliable. Hardware and software in harmony ... all as one. Natural materials. Supposed to be more expensive, but isn't.

The competition is a mixed bag. OS from company A with a philosophy very different to OEM, company B. OEM companies B, C, and D all have different design philosophies ans standards as well. End products all over the spectrum. Mostly synthetic materials giving everything a synthetic feel. All about functionality. Look and feel an afterthought. Supposed to be cheaper, but isn't.

Well, you can't say I'm not trying ... just watched iGenius and gives a nice view of his mind.

I suppose if he accomplished everything he wanted - and other businesses were run as he wanted, then none of flaws mentioned in my OP would be there to start with. Seems the issue is people resisting the change which - unfortunately - is always going to happen.
