iPad 2 disadvantages

And that there is the very reason why I hate iTunes with a passion, because my media is on a NAS. Itunes just can not handle it when media is not on the PC the software is installed on.

I store my media off my Computer as I dual boot into Linux(No iTunes support) and Windows
I also store my music off my computer and iTunes works just fine.

Timmie - those were the past excuses.

When they launched the initial iPhone without 3G, I got a 'who cares?' When its brought up that iMacs don't have Bluray - I get 'who cares?'

If i bring up lack of Flash, I get "boohoo" ...

Look - I just think its got a few flaws. I'll live with them - but I think that the word 'Apple' and 'flaw' don't go together in some peoples eyes.

Can you imagine other companies restricted and limited users to such an extent? Can you image Microsoft bringing out a device that uses a triangle SIM and we all need to change? Added their own ports and allowed nothing else? A Windows thar had restricions based on where in the world you are! A device that goes against the grain and refuses to use major technology and feature?

They wouldn't exist - so I salute S.Jobs for persuading (brain washing?) You into thinking its great.

As I said - I'm buying it, but I recognise the huge flaws and restrictions. I bought a Volvo - but again I recognise the flaws too

Anyway - no point for the thread to go on if there are zero flaws.

If I come across anything, I'll rather Google and get reviews on future 'I' product from neutral sources

I just feel that people like you should rather get a netbook than a tablet. Tired of people who expect the same functionality from a device which is not a computer, and wasn't designed to be a computer.

I've had a netbook ... Loved it - but sold it.

Looking for a replacement - but not as a replacement as such. My main thing is the browsing and my apps such as FB, LinkedIn, Twitter, Bloomberg, News24 and the odd app to read news etc.

In the initial post my main worry was Flash, which I asked about it. Since then I realise the app store restriction ... Which is a little crappy tbh - but hopefully shouldn't really impact me.

BTW - what does www.nandos.co.za bring up?

Lol. You actually need to put the blame on nandos web design firm, not on the device.

Have no idea how they can think it is remotely acceptable to only have a flash based site. Considering that most big companies actually do realize how many visits they get from non flash enables devices. Just lazy on their part I feel. Look at how many sites you visit using your phone some times, that open a mobile site, or a non flash version of the site. You have to have some way for those visitors to also access your content. It's pretty basic.

Timmie23, people have different needs. The iPad really looks like a very sweet tablet, probably one of the best built on the market, but it seems like it cannot do everything I need it to do. The Acer A501 can do all I need, so can the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 and the Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet. The iPad seems superior to them in some fields, and for me it is a real pity that it lacks functions that make the others much better options for me.

I have a netbook. Any of the tablets above will be able to replace it for what I do with it, except the iPad. If the iPad supported USB (with stock support for mounting flash drives and external HDDs) I wouldn't have had to think twice about it.

Again as I said the nando's site will open a mobile version on the standar browser

About the thread:

Last time I checked its call "disadvantages" not give me the "advantages" of iPad so most people here post what they dont like about iPad. I even posted that given the options the author has he should go iPad. It is best to know what you are going to get and not lie to yourself.

I find it funny that the moment people post bad things about iPad that they all of a sudden market as Anti Apple. Its like the people been brainwashed to think nothing bad about the products and I must say its quite sad when you reach that stage of thinking. In fact I believe most Apple users suffer from cognitive dissonance.

About Flash:

We in a tradition phase as many sites still use flash, it would be great if we, the people had a choice if we want to deal with the resource problems or not. I really dont see why Apple dont allow people the option to install it if they want to or not.

I liken it to the fact that we in a transition period of petrol vs electric and all the car makers stop making petrol driven cars. Even when there is a lack of filling stations that allow you to charge your car. We in a transition phase so give people the choice, dont force them onto it.

No offence, but this is such a stupid thread.

Dolby, sell the iPad when you get it. Don't break the seal. Take the cash and go buy an Android tablet. Problem solved. No need for this ongoing saga about the flaws of a device you await delivery of. I'm sure there will be forumites here who'll buy it from you if it's a few bucks cheaper than at the shops (non FNB clients).

One disadvantage is the amount of accessories available - makes it difficult to choose. :-)

You right in saying its a disadvantage as I see it as things you need to buy to address the shortcomings of the original product.

Buy X to get a SD card reader, or Y to get HDMI output and Z for USB functionality.... :)

Then again, at least they are available.

A great must have - http://www.usbfever.com/index_eproduct_view.php?products_id=2287

Unreal ... :/

I take back everything - it is the best ... nothing touches it or gets close. Who was I thinking that Apple would create a flawed device in the first place?

I have learnt never to doubt or query anything from an Apple factory

Although I do find the majority of Apple users to have same sheep mentality - I apologise once again. I guess there's truth in the fact that one can sell a box of sh*t and label it iManure, and people will flock in their millions to buy it.

May as well close the thread

Answered many time - it's cheap, I can afford it, I'm settling - but I wanted to learn more about the disadvantages I'll face. However I've learnt there is no such thing

I see, I'll be interested what you think of it then. I don't own one but will need one for developing/designing apps.

There are disadvantages. None are showstoppers. Approach it with a "let's see what I can make this thing do" attitude rather than a "let's see what it can't" attitude.

Dolby, we all know and acknowledge that the iPad has flaws. This has been stated in many threads. We also know and acknowledge that Honeycomb slates have flaws. The problem here is not the flaws, or disadvantages (as you put it), but the way in which you are dealing with this matter. The feeling the reader gets is that you are more interested in making a statement than trying to get real answers. Why not rather have a thread with a title like "Strengths and Weaknesses of the iPad 2" to be fair, and then consider the arguments, instead of jumping in to diss the device and company yourself.

BTW I can keep you busy for hours on the flaws of Honeycomb slates.

The Readers' Digest condensed version: iTunes for Windows will run under WINE.
