Hi guys,

I'm sitting at in I-cafe and don't have time to search around, not being lazy I promise just running out of minutes here!

Been searching everywhere, and i'm currently in Bangkok and have been offered an iPad2 64gb model with 3g for 35000 baht, which is about R8,000 before negotiating.

Now before I buy one,

A: Do you think that's a good price?
B: Will the 3G work in South Africa?
C: Will it have an waranty in South Africa
and D: Can you use Skype with an iPad2 (now that it has a front camera)..

I know it has facetime, but the people I want to video conference with only use skype and don't have ipads...

Appreciate the assistance guys :)

Price seems good yes.
You have to make sure it is a GSM chipset, not CDMA.
Apple products do carry a international warranty, so shouldn't be a problem.
You can download the iPhone version of skype for the ipad, I can be wrong, but I haven't found an iPad version of skype

Skype works on iPhone, iPad Touch and iPad.

8000 is an acceptable price for this model and I would buy it if I could.

Just make sure you pay your duties at the airport when you get back, otherwise Core Group will not honour the warranty. They insist on proof of duties paid when they service Ipads not bought from authorised SA dealers. I'm also not sure if they can do anything with an Ipad 2 yet ... the device is from what I can see a service nightmare because everything is glued together.

Yep, posting off it right now :)
Got a 64gb with 3G in white for R8150

Gosh I hope it works when I get home!!

Congrats :)

Getting my iPad2 in a few days too, same as yours but in black

Will do! Will also let everyone know if it works but I'm sure it will.

Now it came with a charger, can I plug that into my wall socket at home without fear of it exploding? Same for the USB?

Yeah just always check the rating on the charger to make sure anyways though.

Regarding USB, it's fine as well, but to charge over USB there's a tweak for your PC if it doesn't charge. - http://iphoneza.co.za/forums/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=234

It will work over here so I wouldn't worry about that ;)

it all works perfectly :)

havent tried the 3G yet but i'm sure it'll be cool...

Regarding 3G, should I buy a new contract or what?
If I get the Cell C option will it be quick? or is the speed limited to the device? ie, will i be getting the 21mbps or whatever it is with Cell C?

On Vodacom, you can get a Data Only SIM which is linked to your contract, and then get a bundle for that. You can probably do the same with Cell C

good deal.....getting mine at the end of the month

Does the iPad two use a Micro sim? If you can get a CellC whoosh package, that's probably your best bet. VC have a similar special going now too.

awesome!! enjoy it!
i paid a dude in bangkok to load mine with stuff, having so much fun!!

I really want one, just not prepared to pay the ridiculous prices that people are selling them for. :(
