iPad 3 here early in 2012: WSJ

Awesome screen resolution. As a seasoned Apple-hater, I have to say well done to Apple for pushing the limits. Let's hope that this info is indeed correct. Without Apple, there would be little innovation from the competition and less motivation to push the limits of technology.

This will be another product that will be 2 steps ahead I'm sure while making competitors scramble to release an equivelent

Parts for 1,5 million iPads ..??? Never enough... They sold nearly a million iPad 2's on the day it was launched.
That said... Hmmmmmmmmmm :D

oohh, so that's why iPhone5 has been delayed...they're too busy with their current cash cow...

Not so much... The article mentions the 9,2 million iPad sales but not the 20,3 million iPhone sales... Just saying.

I think you mean Samsung; they're the ones rumoured to have made the high res screens. They built a new $2.5bil screen fabrication plant whose first products are in the Galaxy S 2 and Galaxy Tab 10.1, both amazing screens. The current iPhone4 "retina" screen was used in an LG device a year before the iPhone4. The world does keep turning without Apple, they just like you to believe it doesn't. Keep your Apple skepticism going, it sounds like you're getting sucked in to the reality distortion field :)

The really interesting thing will be - will Samsung plop this panel into their tablet before they let Apple have a go at it? Apple are being giant douches to them right now, and it would really be nice to see Samsung return the favour.

No I meant Apple. Sure Samsung and many other companies make all the various components and assemble them into an Apple device (iPhone/iPad/iPod), but it is the execution strategy of Apple that makes their products phenomenally successful, while other companies struggle, even though the technology may have been available previously and not even invented by Apple (mp3 players, smartphones, tablet PCs). Tablet PCs have been available for a long time, but it was Apple that executed a perfect strategy to bring these devices to mass market and make them affordable (in comparison to prices of existing tablets at the time). Apple CREATED the market. Same goes for the iPhone - Apple really kickstarted the smartphone industry (OK in this case they didn't create it, but then again you couldn't really call WM6/6.5, S60, or BB OS smartphone platforms, especially compared to what we have today). iPhone is the reason we have Android, WP7 and soon QNX. I still hate Apple, they (Steve Jobs particularly) have a foul, arrogant, big-bully-type attitude, but we need to give credit where it is due. The world is better off with Apple around (for now).

It said the next generation iPad is expected to feature a high resolution 2048-by-1536 pixel display compared with the 1024-by-768 display on the iPad 2.

A resolution higher than full HD? If this is true, it will be incredible, but I have my doubts - will this not push the price too high?

Impressive indeed.
On The pricing though, I seriously doubt if there will be a hike.
