iPad alternatives

And my dam Asus Eee Pad Transformer that was sold out minutes after launch in both US and UK markets :(

I think I am gonna have a problem sourcing this puppy.

Having used a Galaxy Android Device, and then being given an iPad (thanks MyBB), I have to say that the Galaxy Devices are streaks ahead of the Apple platform. But note the following points.

The Apple OS is definitely more refined visually. It is smoother and more luxurious. It looks more professional.
But the Apple OS has some serious limitations and short comings. It is not very intuitive or as user friendly as Android.
The Battery life on the iPad is way better than the Galaxy devices. IMO Samsung has to do some serious work on their battery life.
Both of them suck when it comes to synching with your PC. It is easier just to download what you need from the Internet or to take the memory card out.
I have not bought any apps for either of them, so I can't comment on the paid apps, but the Android free apps are way better than Apple's.
Google integration on Android is way better than on Apple (Well, duh!) but that is a major issue for me.
Honeycomb on the Galaxy blows iPad 2 out of the water. There is just no comparison any more.

If I had a choice right now, I would def. go for the Galaxy tab over the iPad any day of the week.
Using the Galaxy you feel like you are able to get things done.
Using the iPad you feel like you are playing with a nice toy, but are frustrated by it's limitations.

Interesting choice. I have also used both devices, and will definitely go for the iPad. I still need to take a Motorola Xoom for a spin, but I will be surprised if it beats an iPad...

Im glad acer has entered into this. Hopefully they can bring down the prices on these things.

IMHO the Motorola Xoom beats them all - very happy with this product - beats iPad 2 hands down.

The Dell Streak is available from one of the mobile carriers right now, Froyo on an Isonic Tablet, Archos Tablet - these are the most affordable on the market right now.

The big question I still have - does the Playbook use BIS?

You have to teather it to an BB cellular device to get BIS. also you dont get BBM if you buy a Playbook, so RIM basically has alienated all those people who want a BB Device but not a BB phone to NOT buy thier products.

So interesting mention of the Notion Ink Adam, great Idea and for what its worth great execution for a small company but ive seen videos on youtube of it, and its really slow and unresponsive, it really needs some work, similar responsiveness to the B&N Nook colour from my expirience of the youtube videos out there.

IMHO the Asus/Motorola/New Samsung tablets are looking good. Whatch out for a lenovo flavour aswell, as it looks smashingly good.

I own both an 10" Samsung Galaxy and Ipad2. So i think i can comment on the general feel of both.

Ipad2 - Very slim, Long Battery Life and Very Bright Display. Apps Cost money. A must for the Business Person if you want to read your emails or write alot of emails or need to work on something while Flying around the world.

Samsung Galaxy - Not too bulky, Battery life is good but not as "long" as Ipad2 (you'll get +- 5-6hours out of this one). Screen is Bright but not as crisp as the Ipad2's. Obviously Free Apps is nice from the Market Place. Also a nice Device for the Business Person. Can read email quite comfortably.

Both have Camera's, but how often would you really use an Camera on such a big device. (Not as if you can fit it in your pocket, or carry with you on Safari)

I like both, i use each for different things. Ipad2 for Games, Emails and Certian Apps. Android for the apps and video streaming (Can stream Flash etc)

Games, Sofar games have not been that great on Android. Specially since most games for Android are ment for phones and not Tablets that much. Also the games don't look that rich and are generally not made for that specific Device. Ipad's games and Apps are made for one Unit and they know the limitations and memory use and resolutions of the Ipad1/2 etc.. Example Some Android games are not made to use Multitouch.

But you do get some nice games on Android, Angry Birds , PLants vs Zombie etc.etc.

Just my 2cents. Not trying to choose sides, generally i just enjoy technology :)

Wow, the battery life of the Galaxy Tab v sucks. I've been playing on my Xoom nonstop since I got it and I get about 13 hours out of it.
