iPad Mini or iPad 3

iPad 3 gets kinda heavy after a while, the newer one should be out soon and will most likely be shaped like the mini and be a tad lighter this hope.

Unless you going second hand then you cant go wrong with full blown retina ipad, i fiddled with the wife's ipad2 this week and was like jeez this screen is yuck!

Retina screen is vital, that being said thefull size iPad's are quite heavy. One handed reading becomes strenuous after a while.

Can't give you specifics, but a few months back my friend had to make the same choice. He was going for the iPad 3 until he held the mini in his own hands. Bought the mini right there and then with no regrets so far.

I've got both at home. Wife uses the Mini, I use the 3. Was a difficult decision for me as I travel and read while I travel, that's 90% of my usage of it. In the end I couldn't forego the retina. Side by side the retina screen is immediately better - not just sharper but also brighter and more vivid colours. On the other hand, Mini feels 10x better than the 3 in every other possible way.

I have both. If I had to choose one over the other, I would keep my mini, without a doubt. The screen of the mini is not as small as it appears, that is because it has almost no side bezel compared to the big bezel of the iPad. It is light, and much easier to carry around.

I'd also take the mini over the iPad3. No, the screen isn't retina - and I doubt it will be any time soon - but it's close enough for me. Compared to the iPad3 it's as light as a feather.

iPad Mini for sure. I have 'em all and the only one I now carry with me is the Mini. the size and comfort benefits far outweighs the lack of a retina screen. A retina screen is not required and all this fuss about the Mini that must have a retina screen is nonsense. the retina looks better for sure but it demand more power that demands a bigger battery that will increase thickness and weight. Not what the Mini is about. I genuinely have zero need for a retina screen on my Mini. It is crisp and clear as is. I believe the Mini to be the best thing Apple ever made ... and it is cheaper than an iPhone.

Agreed. Love the non retina screen on my 3GS, much better than my thick, heavy iPhone 5.

As someone who seems convinced retina is coming soon to an ipad mini near you I was wondering what resolution and aspect ratio you think it will be?

2048 x 1536. 370dpi. 7.9". Towards the end of the year.

You sure? I used one of the online calculators and got 324.05 PPI - which is almost the same as the iphone5.

Lol. I give it another 2 iterations before the Mini goes full retina though. I can always be wrong but I think it will take that long for the tech to make it viable. Next gen Mini will be A6X chip with a die shrink - my prediction.

I think the next one has to have a retina display if they want people to buy them.
