iPad Mini or iPad 3

Obvious it's going to have one. That's been the single biggest criticism of the current mini.

I won't buy the current iPad mini just because of the screen. Was comparing it to a new iPad the other day and the difference is night and day. When the retina model comes out I think I am going to replace my iPad 3 with it.

Night and day? Wow! Sure the iPad Mini was switched on?

I've got the iPad 2 and 4 and my Mini is better than the 2 but not much worse than the 4. I actually believe Apple got it just right for such a small tablet. If a better screen makes this thing any thicker and/or heavier it will not be the same and then the small Android tablets are going to close in for the kill. They are already much cheaper ... 32GB WiFi+3G 7" Nexus = R3999. Same iPad Mini = R6400.

Yes, you can see it immediately with the text, it just looks fuzzy compared to the retina display.

As someone who has both I have used the mini 90% of the time in the past 3 months. For me the lightness of the mini outweighs the visual advantage offered by the iPad 3.

Only time I find myself using the iPad 3 is if I'm streaming plex or Netflix.

You can see it immediately I agree. It doesn't take more than a couple of minutes to acclimate but I love how the retina screen accentuates typography.

I have the Mini and 3...and only use the latter when the Mini is charging. :)

Seriously, the screen doesn't bother me much and the ergonomics simply trumps the bugger sibling by a mile. Mini with retina - well that would be perfect.

My point is that I can rather wait until they release a retina version before I replace my bulky iPad 3.

I'm looking at the same page of a book on an iPad, iPad3, and a iPad mini and there is nothing harsh about the text on the mini. Night and day is the difference between the iPad and the newer retina iPad. The difference between the retina is like night and dusk. However reading ebooks has never even been the in the top reasons why I had an iPad, if it was I'd probably want a kindle.

Had the two in my hands at IC the other day and compared them. I am not at all saying the mini display is bad, it's just you can notice that the text isn't nearly as smooth like on the retina displays. Love the form factor though.

The Mini's screen is a higher density version of the iPad 2 screen. I read a lot and have both the Kindle Paperwhite and the Mini, and the Mini compares very well. Absolutely nothing inferior about it. I do photo editing on the Mini and it works great as it is far easier to carry with the other kit. A retina screen will be great IF it doesn't add weight or thickness ... or price ... to what is an awesome product already. I don't see a retina screen making as big a difference on the smaller Mini as it does on the larger 10" screen. But Apple will buckle under the pressure to release a retina Mini. Jobs is not there to just say no and walk away any more.

took the plunge yesterday and bought an ipad mini. first apple product for me. it takes some getting used to when coming from android. but i love it to death already even though i have only had it for a few hours. now im sleepy at work because i was up till about 3am playing around on it. cant wait to get back home to continue the journey.

I get the impression that even people who don't necessarily like iOS appreciate the iPad Mini. It's really a great device.

absolutely. i hated apple in every sense of the word. it was always a pointless os to me. no customization, no access to your file structure and i didnt like the idea of having no home screens or widgets like on android. but the pure beauty of the device just got me and as soon as i picked it up and held it, i knew i would buy it. i was also very concerned with the low specs(cpu and ram) but i have to give it to apple. they know how to use their resources. only another 10 more minutes before i can go home and play with it. i think my credit card will take a hit tonight on the app store.
