iPad Mini reveal expected at October 23 Apple event

If they have a 16Gig Wifi only for $250, I will look at it else I'll be getting a Nexus.

Need a 7" to replace my current tablets for reading in bed, both the iPad and Eee Pad are way to heavy for this activity.

Really don't get the nexus fascination.

I wish wifi was ubiquitous enough to make a wifi only tablet of any brand worthwhile but having had a wifi only first gen iPad and a nexus 7 I can tell you my third gen iPad with 3g gets way more use than those other two combined.

R1700 <----- that is the part I like. Esp seeing that I know and have no problems with Android in my ecosystem.

As for the Wifi only, my current iPad and Eee pad's both WiFi Only. My house is blanketed with WiFi and I have an Android phone that can give me 3G when needed.

Maybe the nexus was the wrong device to pop my droid-cherry with. :) The hardware doesn't seem to be up to the task when it comes to the os.

Not a big fan of having to rely on a seperate device to provide internet access. I got a portable 3g router but it's something else to charge and something else to carry. Different strokes for different folks.

I will get the wifi only mini iPad, because I have an iPhone that I can use hotspot with. It works great with my current iPad 2. At R1700 its a bloody good deal, and will be perfect to put in my camera bag and use that instead of the iPad 2.

Get a bigger bag because if they don't buck the trend set by the nexus 7 and ship with only 8gb of storage on the base model you're going to be running out of space sooner than you would with even the smallest iPad2.

If you are lucky, this is Core we talking about. They will at least add another 50% just because they can.
Take VAT out of the equation (because US prices don't include sales tax for obvious reasons) and we're only about R150 more than the US price for the 16gb with 3G.

The Nexus 7 16GB has been replaced by the Nexus 7 32GB for the same price ($250), so make sure that you get the 32GB when you buy. This is also what the Apple Mini will have to compete with.

I have a Nexus 7 16GB, I think that it is great, although the lack of 3G and microSD slot is a pain - not that the Apple Mini will have the latter !

Yeah don't think 2.5k is gonna happen, probably closer to 3k+ for the entry level. Seeing that the current "new" iPad 16GB wifi goes for about R5300 locally.
