There is ,as always, alot of excitement around Apple News. I "was" planning to get an iPad on my next trip to The States, however with iP4 is makes sense to hold on for iPad GenII. As with iP1, the jump to iP2 and then iP3 made iP1 look like an old Nokia. I predict the same for iPad GenII (albeit stating the obvious). The early adopter in me has not patience. I just may get over it this time and wait for once. iPad II has a lot of promise

I don't think I'll be able to do that. Patience is definitely not a strong suit... :p

What peeves me though is that I can't just walk into a shop and buy the damn thing. No, you have to jump through hoops. :(

:p Ja, but where do you draw the line with your argument ? You might as well say - don't wait for version 2, rather wait for version 3 - because it will have even more features than 2......All the while, you could have been having fun on a very capable version 1 :o
It's the same with anything in technology - digital camera's, cellphones, computers etc, they all get upgraded very quickly.

Less than a year ago I bought the latest greatest Cannon digital SLR camera....although it is still on the market, there is a new one out that has better features

One good thing with Apple, is their software updates - every time they make a significant upgrade to their OS, it's like getting a new computer/iPhone etc They are very good with bringing out regular updates. My iPad bought a few weeks ago will get it's new software update in a few weeks time, giving it a whole bunch of new features :D

Yes but with the added 3G on the second generation it makes a world of difference to the actual functionality of it. In the US sure there's wifi everywhere but in SA it's a different story.

Huh ? my iPad already has 3G - I have the 64GB 3G version. I wouldn't call it a second generation either, it was just released 30 days after the wi-fi only version. But, yes, I have 3G so I don't know what you are waiting for ? :D

 all the way...

Its a tough one, as a rule i try never buy first generation of anything. I'm trying very hard to put off buying an ipad and wait for the 2nd generation which I hope will have more iphone 4 capabilities. A forward facing cam would be great for me. But yes easier said than done.

the Ipad with 3G is not second gen, it is exactly the same as the wifi ipad except for those two tiny little digits!
I reckon a new ipad will be at least a year in coming!!

I've decided I'm going to wait. A camera will be nice but if the 2nd generation uses the same screen technology as the new iPhone then forgetaboutit!

Why is that? The new retina display looks awesome!!
Freakin HD for your cell can u imagine watching a filom on your Ipad with that retina display.
1 time!

That's what I'm saying - the possibility of having that screen on the 2nd gen iPad makes it worth the wait.

I doubt they will have a retina display on an iPad soon, anyway it will take at least a year. If you want an iPad, go and get it. The screen is great as it is.

lol to get a "retina" display on the Ipad it will have to be over 1920x1080 to get the right PPI.

And a week ago people might have scoffed at the idea of getting a 326ppi 960x640 on a 3.5" iPhone. :)

Well not really. But it just does not seem viable to do it on an Ipad.
What it would need is a 30" (2560x1600 i think) screen crammed into 9.7"? Wont happen at least for 2 years.
1920x1080 will only be 227 PPi on the Ipad

I am a bit confused by this statement  I thought the new iPhone had a great display ?

Anyway, I can assure you - the display on the current iPad is simply magnificent. I am talking from experience - I have owned one for 3 weeks now, my daughter is playing on it as I type this, the graphics on a game she is playing now is like a a Sony PS3. Unbelievable !!!!

My apologies for the confusing vernacular.

Yes, the new iPhone does have a great display and as a photographer I'd like to see the same technology applied to the iPad as well as a few additional enhancements. :)

As a long time Apple user I'm also wary of first generation releases of anything.

So, all in all I'm happy to wait for the next release. :)

Well i still want my Ipad :p. I am waiting to catch one as it falls off the back of an Apple truck :D
