I tried loading some pdf book on a friends galaxy tab.... When browsing through the pages, it would freeze, crash, of simply take ages to load.
This doest happen on the sgs2, but it is a bit slower than the iPad 2.

I'm sure they'll sort the tab issues out soon enough.

I own both, IPad 2 and GT10.1. I HATE the IPad. How people use this is beyond me. Try searching for a decent "file manager" to you know "manage your files" on an un-jailbroken IPad and see what you come up with.

My wife "upgraded" the jaibroken 4.33 to IOS 5 and its more like a "downgrade". I hate this device. It has now become my "Barney machine" for my 13 month old but even playing Barney is done better by Galaxy Tab.

Will never ever buy an Apple product again. Flame away Apple fans. No skin of my back. Just personal opinion from OWNING both devices.

I have an old HTC Desire running vanilla ICS which I rate ahead of iOS.

This iOs vs Android war is getting tedious now. It still all depends what you want in the end. Just check the strong points of each OS that you are considering and see which is more compatible with what you want.

If I could only have one, I would take a android device, but I am pretty sure if I had an mac I would probably go the other way.

Just play with both devices and see what you like more, specs dont always tell the full story.

Amazing how opinions vary so greatly ;)

There are quite a few people with both devices - and even then some swear by iPad, some are indifferent and some swear by the GalaxyTab

I also have a BlackBerry Playbook around here too so think I can give an informed opinion.

Answer is simple. iPad 2.

Galaxy TAB 10.1 is pretty and runs nicely, Android just isn't there yet in my opinion. I hardly touch it to be honest, it still has the plastic on the back!

See that is what I find so funny about humans. We all have our own opinions.

On my side I have a similar list well its more like HTC Desire HD, ASUS eee pad, iPad 1 and a iPhone 4 and both my IOS devices wanna file for neglect. :)

My brother has a iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPad 1 iPad 2 and Galaxy 10.1. He recommends the Galaxy over the iPad most the time

Sounds like a case of Apple over-dose to me! That is why he prefers to go different--Android on Samsung--give him the novelty of using a different OS/Machine/way of thinking.
 
Nah - for certain people the Galaxy is probably better.

Check this scenario :

I got my iPad at 8:00 on Monday I was super excited and plugged it in ... only to realise I could only use it *after* I first plug it into my iTunes back at my 'home base'. I wait the entire day to get home and do it ... and it boots up ready for setup!

Enter the information required - and find SA is very limited. So pop to Google, forums, tutorials to find out I need to fake an account at USA to get it working. However the process isn't quite the easiest, especially when it comes to ease of buying apps later on.

I have a spare Vodacom SIM contract data contract at home - but the following day head to the shop to swap with an iSIM and wait a few more hours to be activated. Once done, I download Bloomberg, Angry Birds and Snapsort. Oops ... Snapsort won't download and it throws to me wifi at my 'home base' ... so another few hours later I'm back at home on Tuesday night and sort that out. 48 hours and I'm set up!

Wednesday morning and finally things are starting to sort themselves out - and other collegues start getting their FNB iPads too. We have time in the office and all being new to Apple, start to explore the device. We decide to try FaceTime ... but that throws me to my 'home base' too. Happy that I realised this before I bought a 20GB promo and have no way to use it on the 3G iPad, though!

I try out Youtube and the very first video can't be found. Hop on the the PC and it's available .... odd? Anyway - put the tablet aside and show my friends the video on the PC instead. We try with another video ... same issue :/ However I'm glad I get a few videos at least.

I think the idea of getting magazine subscriptions is great - pushed to the device and easy to read. I sign up and pay for 3 subscriptions - but then realise there's a bug in Newstand. The device cannot download in the background ... so every time you go leave the app, the download starts from 0MB again. Result? 2.5GB to get my 700MB of magazines. Even then, I had to leave the iPad on the bed while it finished. I set the screen not to lock either, as I didn't want any interruptions.

The next day I want to show a colleague a song I'd heard the night before at a gig ... but the artist website is Flash - no go! I pop to the Musica side to maybe get the song - but it's Flash too. Maybe a Youtube video? It cannot find it yet again ....

After quite a bit of searching on Google and playing around, I need to see my data bundle to prevent R2/MB OOB shark - and realise this can't be done easily. The iPad receives no warning and cannot send an SMS to get a balance. As luck would have it, the Vodacom site is down as well .... so I end up calling and waiting 20 minutes for an answer. This happens for the next week while the Vodacom site is down.


Now I have time and skills to do this - but when it comes to a 61 year old man wanting to read the news, check shares and the occasional video ... the Galaxy is probably the better one. After my stepbrother told him what to get, he went out and bought it at 9am ... and it was set-up at 10am

Guess it all depends on the individual

I keep saying it, apple is for tech savvy users droid is out of the box user friendly.
 
The point is this though.

Once you have worked out how to circumvent the "perceived" nuances plaguing the iPad the over all experience is infinitely better than anything else available on the market at the mo.
 
@Dolby:

The "homebase" issues mentioned is strange. According to that FaceTime can only work over wifi. That makes no sense since it works for me over 3G and WIFI. You can activate an iPad2 without connecting to "homebase" if the iPad has some sort of internet connection. If 3G is available, it will use that. Wifi is only used for activation if the 3G connection is not available or there is no active simcard with data available.
 
Mine - and all my colleagues - definitely will not run over 3G - I've just tried it again :

'FaceTime Failed : Connect to a Wi-Fi network to use Facetime'

When I got the device it was 4.x ... upgraded the following day to 5.0 and now running at 5.0.1.

Yea - all I'm saying is that different people, different needs. My stepfather will never get an iPad based on recommendation he received... and although my stepbrother loves his iPad, he's got no issue recommending the Galaxy.

If we all lived in the US with free/fast/uncapped wifi everywhere we go, the iPad is a great choice. But the fact we have to use workarounds is frustrating.
 
Lol Dolby, I can relate to your scenario...... Took me ages to set mine up too.

Mac + OS X is awesome, and you can do anything you want with it, it doesnt need to be jail broken.... But iOS.... Eish no. iPad is nice, but next time I'm getting a galaxy tab.
 
Getting iPad set up in this country is a real pain. In the us it's quite straightforward, really just as easy as android. And in terms of basic user friendliness its ahead of android. Although if honeycomb was just smoother to use I would be much more predisposed to it.
