iPad3 - Need convincing

Tried to register a USA account and no go.

1. Click the ZA flag at the bottom right.
2. Select USA.

That is as far as I can get. It fails saying "the item you have requested is not available in the selected store". I can either switch back to ZA or try another country?
I even shut down iTunes to makes sure nothing was selected. Same thing?

What am I doing wrong peeps? Is there another way to do this?

Log out of your sa account then then download a free app and it will tell you to login or create account. Then create a new account. Make sure you have a street address in the usa. Go for mcdonald address and tel number

I always use this guide, follow it to the letter -

IIRC it has to be a new account (AppleID) - I used [email protected] to register and to keep track of different username/id's

Thanks guys. Will give it another bash.

Installed Dashboard X 2 and playing around with various widgets. Although basic, the screen looks so much better than the stock app and folder icons. Big up sand_man ;)

Kindly explain false identity information?

Kindly explain which SA law/s is being broken?

Kindly explain which US law/s is being broken?

Kindly explain procedure to extradite offender from SA to US for purchasing 50 dollars worth of apps, money that went to Apple/US economy/rightful owner?

Look mate, I think you're fairly objective, not too anti-Apple just for the fanboi sake of it, but this is ridiculous and really grasping at straws. Rather concentrate on not breaking the road speed limit or not pirating music/movies/games or some such...

What do you think is stopping/preventing Apple from selling music, movies and games in the SA iTunes Store? Laws. Laws that require certain agreements to be reached between parties. The parties involved did not come to an agreement so the applicable laws now state that these items may not be sold in the SA version of the store. Apple would love to do so as it means more money for them ... but they can't. The MyBroadband journos can get a formal legal opinion on this.

Now, if I now lie (give false information) to Apple to pretend to be somone living legally in the States, to surcumvent the laws that prevent a mighty company like Apple from selling music, movies and games in SA I'm not doing anything wrong/unlawful? Common sense should tell anyone it's wrong to lie to get what you are per law not to have/own using unlawful aquisition mechanisms.

Let the journos get us a proper legal opinion.

iTunes USA registration still not working.
I cannot change my store from ZA to USA at the bottom right. I click the ZA flag and iTunes presents me with a page showing a range of countries with Canada and USA at the top.
I select USA then it tells me "The item you have selected is not available in the USA store but is in the ZA store. Would you like to change to the ZA store" with OK and Cancel as options.
OK takes you back to the ZA store and Cancel keeps you on the country selection page.

I tried a few countries with he same end result.

Either I have a version newer than the guides and things have changed, or I am seriously dof. Hope it is not the latter :)

Apple could be forced to block any account that is used in this way. Those who have spent hundreds of Rands on stuff from the store will lose it all.

Are you registering a new account from the iPad in iTunes?

I am with you here Bevonk. I don't feel right doing it this way.
The way I see it is a lessor of 2 evils. 1st being to just outright steal what I want and 2nd being this stupid workaround but at least the devs are getting paid.

If keeping the iPad then I would prefer to pay the devs. I am hoping that if the ZA gov catch on to this that they would do no more than make us pay the relevant duties and taxes which would not be much (depending on how much you purchase).

What I do wonder about is how Google does it. I have noticed that a lot of apps in the Play Store are cheaper than the same app in the App Store, and this with duties and taxes factored in. What is Apple not agreeing with that Google happily agrees with?

If it is a "small thing" why is it stopping almighty Apple from just selling us the stuff? Clearly not so small.

Doing it on my windows PC dude. Should I be doing it on he iPad?
The guides say open iTunes so assumed do it via PC?

Think it's easier doing it on the device. Open iTunes, scroll to the bottom and select Sign In, Create Apple ID. If you are already signed in just sign out first.

I wait for the day when those with fake address acounts on here cry about all the lost stuff when their accounts got audited and blocked. As happened to me. Apple knows where you really live.

Are criminal charges pending?

Apple is not going to shut down these accounts unless they get forced to by some government agency. Why would they want to decrease profits?

Correct. Easier on the iPad. Managed to select USA.
When it gets to payment info I am forced to choose an option and of course my CC address is not the fake USA address I am registering, so registration fails.
Damn this is frustrating.
