Well according to the scuttlebutt ... Have a look at www.macrumors.com and www.appleinsider.com
They believe it to be the first week of march, so wait before buying an iPad 2
I'm pretty sure the lineup won't change from the current spec i.e.:
16, 32, 64GB with and without 3G (possibly 4G LTE)
The above list of "certain" is anything BUT that...
So, wait and see. But it is guaranteed to be better than the current iPad 2.

I remain to be convinced about that. Sure, the display will improve. Resolutions have only been going up historically and grandpa is old enough to remember when 800x600 was considered HD. But 2048x1536 would be freakish. You actually could not develop for that on a 27" iMac (2560x1440) and see the entire thing pixel-by-pixel.
What kind of heat buildup would you get cramming that kind of pixel density into a 10" screen? What will it do to your battery life? What kind of yield can they get from their suppliers? Lots of unanswered questions around.
Apple has just gotten unknown but large numbers of people sitting in their studies writing textbooks in iBooks Author and let me tell you from experience, that thing is not going to scale 2x easily. It is absolutely optimized for the current resolution (which has led some people to wonder if there is a 7" $200 education-only iPad waiting in the wings to extinguish the Kindle Fire, but that is for another thread).
Still, let's wait and see what the magicians pull out of the hat this time.

I'll be ecstatic if they can keep it at the current level. Three quarters of your wish list draws MORE power. LTE is the worst offender of the lot.
I don't foresee a radical upgrade. Retina screen will be awesome but that comes with high battery drain which requires a larger battery. One can therefore expect something very similar to the current iPad 2 but with a retina screen and battery upsize (which may or may not require a slightly thicker body). Camera upgrade is obvious.
For those into graphics/photography this will be awesome. For average Joe it won't mean much. When one considers the substantial price jump when it comes to retina screens one can expect a more expensive product. Therefore won't be surprised to see two iPads launched ... expensive iPad 3 with retina screen ... and an iPad 2S with better cameras, battery life and faster processor, but the same screen technology as the current iPad 2.

You can't transfer files as intended initially?
I thought the only thing it could do was link to a headset and a few peripherals

If that happens I'll be first in the queue for the 2S. I can read the iPad 1's screen just fine. More battery life will be far more useful to me.

But the fact that it doesn’t even stay on tells me it might be the connector rather.
Probably be no cheaper for you to do yourself than taking it to Apple Doctor though.
Or claim insurance and get a new one.

If it's not dead because they broke it then just stick to Apple.
You've gotten 5 years out of it, so will get another 5 years out of the next one.
R849 to replace the batteries, and you probably can't buy them yourself for much less anyway.
That's if it is the battery of course.
