iPhone 12 Rumours & Release Date

Seems that the iPhone 12 is locked down pretty good:

iPhone 12 takes speed test crown from Samsung Note 20 Ultra with A14 Bionic and 50% less RAM

After launching back August, Samsung’s Galaxy Note 20 Ultra with the Snapdragon 865+ chip and 12GB RAM has been the fastest smartphone when it comes to app-loading style speed tests. However, now that Apple’s released its iPhone 12 and 12 Pro with the new A14 Bionic chip, it’s regained its crown.

PhoneBuff notes that it’s been 20 months since an iPhone was the fastest smartphone in his tests. And the A14 Bionic chip that is Apple’s first built on the 5nm process brings the performance gains to put the iPhone 12 Pro (same chip on all four models) ahead of Samsung’s Galaxy Note 20 Ultra.

Funny enough, after Apple launched the iPhone 12 lineup, along with mocking the company for ditching the charging brick, Samsung said its Galaxy phones had the “best camera, battery, performance, memory” and more.

While app loading-style speeds tests like these aren’t a reason alone for which smartphone to pick, it’s a good illustration of how competitive the market is and how efficient iPhones are with Apple making both the hardware and software.

I saw the same vid last night and it convinced me that after 10+ years using iPhones that its time to change.
Im not giving Apple absolute power over repairs on a device I own.

Sjoe,6GB RAM iPhone 12 Pro made that 12GB in the Note 20 Ultra look pointless.

Looking back at some of their previous tests I see that the iPhone 11 range actually did well in the 1st round,it was just the 2nd round where they would lose it once they drop an app or 2.

Quite the result there, begs the question, do phones really need 12 or 16gigs of RAM? I remember my Note8 performing pretty well with 6gigs but that was back in 2017.

Anyone coming over to SA from the HomePod Mini launch countries

I really want to get my hands on one.

Highly doubt sales will start tomorrow. Would they not have loaded prices for contracts or the cash price from iStore by now? Dont see anything from VC,MTN or Digicape

Haven't seen that type of test before. Really cool idea & much better than synthetic benchmarks.

Really wish there was a way to simulate passage of significant time though. i.e. How does that test fare after 1 year of use & the phone is all clogged up with user data etc.

Anyway...I've decided to hold off on buying a new fruit for now. Figure lockdown/covid will last a couple more months & hopefully deals will be better then

Anyone know what Vodacom could be promoting here? Ridding of old stock?

"Apple Mania"
The last time I had a look at that page earlier today, it had a few iPhone 6s being showcased. This is new, and could be the new iPhones as there are 4 slots which could be the 12, 12 mini, 12 Pro, and 12 Pro Max.

Will have to wait til the timer runs out and see! Hopefully it’s a sign that tomorrow it gets announced here. Who knows.

Timer background gives it away.
However, the title makes no sense.

Seems like the 20W USB-C Charger adapter is now available at iStore. They only had the 18W USB-C up until this week on the website.

New 20W R399
18W R649
5w R449

Eeek. Nice spot Tick tock.
Possibly they are going to launch all 4 models together.

I know stock of 11 Pro's arrived locally in-store the day before launch in the US last year, maybe they can do launch day on the 13th here at the same time as the Mini and Pro Max launch in the US then?

Otherwise 20th?
