Iphone 13 died overnight

ive owned iphones for 13 odd years and through the peaks of loadsheddinng - never had a power surge affect an iphone...

instead of getting all defensive about an iPhone never dying to load shedding consider this is south africa and who knows how much power in your house could have fluctuated over night because of some stupid eskom BS.

the blame is in one of 3 places.
Eskom (power surge)
Apple (software update or bad hardware or planned obsolescence)
User (you did something wrong)

my opinion is that it is more likely an issue at Eskom than anywhere else based on what you said happened.

Have you tried using a wireless charger to charge it?
yep - seem like its a short on the board atleast thats what google point to.
so the charging moduel not communicating with the rest so no power...

interesting.
any reason found for why that could happen?
like maybe an overvoltage from the wall that leads to it, or is it more likely a bad component?

I doubt it's caused by Eskom power/brownout. If so, the first thing that will (should) pop is the charger itself to protect the phone. Even then, that's unlikely. They can go as low as 100VAC or such and still function.

We still don't have an answer as to how old the phone/battery is.

Check if itunes detects the device. It might be stuck in DFU mode.

went to bed put the darn thing on charge working perfectly fine no issues, even set my alarm for the morning.... woke up way late cause my alarm didnt go off in the moring and phone wont even swtich on or charge
tried all of the hard resest soft reset and charge for hours and still nothing just completely dead
out of warranty so istore is like buy a new phone ...

what are my options here - anyone manage to get something like this repaired?

Did you try?

Do a hard reset by pressing up volume, down volume (make sure to press each volume button individually), and then press and hold side button for 10-15 seconds.

Edit, keep trying to do it about 25 times, battery might be flat so resetting this way might not work, try 25 times without the charger 1st and then 25 times with the charger connected.

phone is 25months old - go figuer its dies out of warranty.... battery was fine i was using it daily with no issue last time i check the stauus was not saying service or anything to that effect

Maybe send it to Apple for a battery replacement and see what they say, it’s only around R1000 on most iPhones, maybe you'll get lucky and a new replacement will sort it out or they'll discover the issue while doing it and save you the hassle

Thoughts and prayers go out to you. Take it to iStore and weigh your options, never had faith in 3rd party repair companies.
