iPhone 13 discussions

I didn't think the 120Hz ProMotion would be that noticeable - but wow! It makes everything so silky smooth! It's definitely noticeable coming from a 60Hz screen.

Really, I still cannot tell the difference, i even still use my 11Pro and like 6 year old Android phone still and like I cannot see the difference

The pro, one of the only 2 that got PM. And no the accessibility thing to limit it to 6 is not on either.
Weird then, of every performance bump or evolutionary upgrade (excluding form factor), the one that is the most noticeable is 60hz to 120hz refresh rate. And that is true across all devices and/or manufacturers.

Maybe try turning Pro Motion off and see if you notice the difference?

Camera upgrades are not always obvious or noticeable to photographic novices. CPU upgrades seldom noticeable at all, unless benchmarking. Ram upgrades? Definitely not. Storage capacity? Not unless you checking daily. Flash storage? UFS 3.0 v 3.1? Nope. You be hard pressed to tell the difference between 2.0 and 3.1...

120Hz is only on the Pro and Pro Max models. The normal 13 and 13 Mini have 60Hz displays.

The difference between 120Hz and 60Hz is night and day to me. Really noticeable... I didn't think it would be, but was was quite surprised to see how much of a difference it actually is.

It's the only thing I noticed that was a big upgrade to my 12 Pro Max. Everything else is pretty much the same. You'd have to split hairs to tell the difference in camera quality and overall performance between the last gen iPhones to the 13... but that 120Hz does stand out.

Some people are more susceptible to it than other I guess. ProMotion does nothing than add a level of silkiness to the user experience I guess.

I actually tried locking the motion to 60hz, cannot see a difference. #shrug. Lol

I recently made the mistake of upgrading my iPad 10.5inch Pro to an iPad Air 4.... I was looking at a 3rd gen iPad 11inch Pro but thought I should save R4k odd and get the Air instead! What a mistake?!! Hated the 60hz Air but luckily Digicape let me exchange it for the 11inch Pro.

Have read/seen that there's a considerable physical difference between the 12 and 13 Pro Max. The 13 is a chonky, heavy boy apparently, and you really feel it in your hand and pocket. Much truth in that?

The 13 Pro Max is definitely a hefty chonker. Ever so slightly thicker than the 12 Pro Max to accommodate the much bigger battery - 4352mAh vs 3687mAh found in the 12 Pro Max.

Weight wise they feel similar to me. The 13 Pro Max is 240g whereas the 12 Pro Max is 228g, so only a 12g increase over the 12. Add a cover to the phone, then it's definitely a weighty beast.

Weighed mine with the Apple MagSafe silicone cover and comes in at 287g... think about it. That's over a quarter of a kilogram!

The build quality is insane. It feels like a solid slab of stainless steel. I don't think there's any other phone out there that is built this well.

Damn, sounds like a lot to have to lug around.

Hey guys! I managed to twist my bro's arm to get me the pro version when he comes back to SA on Holiday in a weeks' time. I just wanted to get any thoughts/views on suitable storage size.

There is the cost vs storage trade off. but also dont want to be cleaning up files of the phone on a regular basis.

at this point i'm thinking 256gb or 512gb but keen to know what you think (upgrading from iPhone 8 so no idea whats gonna be suitable).

What kind of user are you?

Unless you shoot 4K video all the time, 256GB will be more than enough. I take a lot of pictures and video, and only ever filled up around 140GB of my 12's 256GB of storage after 5 months of usage.

The huge jump in price from the 256GB to 512GB is just not worth it in my opinion, unless you shooting tons 4K video all the time. The 512GB model is $200 more expensive than the 256GB model. That's a lot of money.

Thanks for this @genetic helps a lot. Yeah I dont record much videos. take a decent amount of pics but not a serial Instagrammer so thats fine as well. I just wanted to make sure that the OS doesnt blow up in size over time or any other unexpected demands on memory.

Yeah - that $200 jump is exactly what i was grappling with.

although i did but that little bugger a lot of Steri Stumpi's over the years, maybe it's time for him to return the favour and pay up :P.

iOS uses literally no space at all;
