iPhone 14 discussions

Also, I did message my buddy working at Cellucity if he can check on the backend to see if he can see the x24 month pricing, but he isnt working this weekend and will let me know tomorrow.

Please update us in thread

I did through CelluCity. No prices listed there yet though.

Curious to see what the 24 month pricing will be. On the Vodacom site, the only 24 month deals include the Watch SE, I just want the device alone.
Done a pre-order via CelluCity, was looking at the Vodacom combo with the Watch8, thought I'll kill two birds :p

I was not at all ready for this one, there is bound to be a bug or two in a new phone but it seems apps like TikTok, Instagram and Snapchat are causing a very weird issue on 14 Pro o_O

Luke touched on this exact point in some good detail today/yesterday.

Hopefully it’s only a limited number of units affected, otherwise this could blow up in a very nasty way for Apple, I’ve felt as though there’s been a bit of a build of people just waiting for them to set a foot wrong.
They need to ensure they handle this better than the Antennagate saga.

It's not really an antennagate scenario, the article above even comes to the conclusion it's an app issue relating to software, not a hardware/camera issue per se.

Because this iPhone 14 Pro camera shaking/rattling problem is only affecting the camera in third-party apps, it’s almost certainly a software bug of some sort. It is likely that these third-party apps weren’t prepared for the iPhone 14 Pro camera changes. In particular, it could be something related to optical image stabilization, hence the rattling sounds the camera module itself makes.

As of right now, there’s no fix for this problem. The affected apps, like Instagram, Snapchat, and TikTok, will likely need to roll out updates to their respective apps to solve the problem.

That's hectic, but probably just a software issue. People experiencing this noted that the camera worked fine in the native app, so it's most likely related to how the 3rd party apps interact with OIS...perhaps some undocumented stuff from iOS? Anyway, hope it gets fixed ASAP before people start damaging their camera modules.

The guy in the video FiestaST posted did mention that it seems there is hardware damage due to it on their 14PM, I believe it had a hard time focusing afterwards.

It’s an interesting one though as it makes you wonder how an app like Snapchat and IG interact with your phone’s hardware.
Often times the 2 pieces of hardware that will see negative impact from apps are the SoC (heating up) and battery (being drained) if the app is poorly done.

If s/w damaged your h/w then who is liable especially when the s/w is free?

Good question, I have no idea.
I guess both SW provider and HW provider?
Apple allows these apps on the App Store, it’s not as if these are jailbroken phones are something. So Apple may need to replace devices but they may also have a case against the owners of the SW and may try recoup losses from them? Who knows.

The chap in the video mentioned that Apple swapped out the devices no questions asked (that's the US though)

Just a random thought, because I’m not too sure how much work would need to go into app design, but the default for Apple since forever has been a 12MP main camera, so not much to think about for developers in that regard - just “retick” the Apple Camera box when updating the app.

The 14 Pro suddenly bumps that up to 48MP, which is a huge resolution jump, with much larger files to process. May just be the apps that haven’t caught up yet?

I’m worried as there was a rattling noise coming out of that iPhone 14 Pro Max

It may be best for people with 14 Pro/Pro Max to stay away from allowing 3rd party apps accessing the camera like Snapchat, TikTok, Instagram etc…
I did see on Reddit and MR some faced this with a few other apps to like banking apps when doing a QR code scan.
So either the apps need to be updated or it could also be an issue with the Camera API that Apple gave to the app developers?
Very weird.

It’s seemingly affecting a small amount of them though (at least for now), so who knows what the real issue is here, a mix of a batch of HW and SW? Who knows.
