I’m also in for at least 5 years.

There’s nothing not good about the iPhone 11 screen I’m using right now, but I get your meaning.

I’ll wait for the next round.

Going OLED is enough upgrade for me.

The non-Pro phones have a 60Hz refresh rate. In my book, that's a deal breaker and total no-go. It's painful to see side by side in an iStore. Cannot believe Apple is still rocking 60Hz in any phone in 2024.

That might be noticeable if you are standing beside a Pro user all day, but to me it’s a stat used by people who like stats.

While you can see it side by side it’s pretty much a non-event when not doing that.

iOS is a smooth experience. I guess if you are use to the glitchy stuttering mess that is Android then you need a 120hz screen.

Typing this quite happily on a 60hz non-OLED screen still and feeling no worse for it.

I work on a 60hz MacBook every single day after all. You better throw yours away immediately because it’s a dealbreaker.

Well as long as you’re happy. For me going to a ProMotion display in my 16” MBP was such a nice upgrade. As was my 32” 4K 165Hz monitor. My iPad Air 5th gen was 60Hz and honestly, kinda painful to use when scrolling anything.

Well this just goes to show how inconsequential it is to me.

I just remembered my 14-inch has a ProMotion display and it’s such a non-event I forgot about it.

I also work with a 13-inch M1 right next to it and honestly don’t notice any difference, but I’m sure I will next week just because of this conversation.

Living with both it’s really a non-event.

I work on my 120hz iPad Pro with my iPhone 11 in my hands sometimes and the screens don’t feel any different in real world use.

I remember with one of the reviews of one of the first mainstream phones to have a high refresh display, Mr Mobile or whoever it was asked random people in the street if they could tell the difference between that and some regular other phone. Some people couldn’t, and some saw it as a huge difference. To me it’s a huge, huge difference. I basically disliked my M1 iPad Air for its refresh rate.

Perhaps it’s a physiological thing somehow, and you’re a person who barely registers a difference.

Yeah historically I’ve gone all black and then made the covers red…it’s a bit of a theme I have between my Watch and Glasses and even helmet at once point.

But I flipped the script and went blue/purple with a grey near white bumper. White seemed too extreme and likely to get dirty more easily.

To be honest, and to echo some of the other comments on here, I really cannot see a difference. Maybe I would if I see it side by side.

As SauronZA says, iOS is a smooth experience. Working on non ProMotion devices are hardly painful.

Isn’t ProMotion adaptive anyway? Meaning not 120hz all the time, but rather just when needed? Or am I confusing it with a different feature?

No I can see it, this is not a case of me being unaware of it.

It’s just not that consequential for me and once you stop actively looking for it, then you really don’t notice it for all the other smoothing the OS does.

Now 30hz and 60hz….whole different story.

A far bigger problem for me is not the refresh of the display itself but rather the content keeping up with it.

Stuttering / lagging is a far bigger problem for me and I reckon you’ll see that way more on a 120hz display as things struggle to keep up, but that’s not an issue on Promotion really, or shouldn’t be.

Yeah it’s Apple wording for VRR.

Which does mean you’ll never truly know if you are looking at 60 or 120 or something in between at any given point in time.

I’m sceptical. It’s not like I actively think about the refresh rates of my devices. I just get on with using them. But switching from my 16 MBP to my previous 60Hz monitor was so irritating I bought a new 165Hz one. And using my 60Hz iPad Air was so unpleasant I sold it. I don’t want to think about my displays, and 60Hz makes me constantly think about it.

I wouldn’t be surprised if this is a thing that varies significantly between people in the degree to which they perceive it.
 
To that point I’m more miffed about missing out on the Always On display rather than the high refresh rate.

But I’m hoping my new Troo MagSafe bedside stand will finally make Standby useful so that will be negated somewhat.

Oh don’t worry I feel all non-Apple display are **** and notice it immediately.

By and large for colour accuracy and luminance, not refresh rate.

My Dell is very good and I can live with it but it’s still “off” compared to the native display.
