My iphone battery is busy failing... charging it to 100% before I go to sleep. Haven't used it all day and is at 45% now.
So, where can I do a replacement?
Who is the cheapest? Or can I do it myself? Where do I get a new battery?

Mine used to do the same, have turned off notifications, emails to manual from fetch and updated the iOS 4.3.3. Hope it helps.

maybe try restore it to factory install with latest firmware. Sometimes stuff can go weird and cause the cpu to go crazy which kills your battery.

I butchered a 3GS once trying to replace the battery. I bought batteries and tools off Ebay then followed an online tutorial. I never changed that battery but learn't a lot about the insides of an iPhone... and the quickest way to depreciate/deface one...

Yeah I need to replace the battery on my now very old 30GB iPod. Battery is good for about 2 minutes :)

i had a thread about this last week with my findings (i.e. search button ;) ). I'm in JHB and found out that sometimes the battery replacement kits can be tough to find and it can be tough to find the right battery. I found a guy up here who changes the batteries for I think about R450 or R500 however I haven't established if he's legit or not. I'm hesitant to hand over such an expensive piece of kit and pay for the change upfront with a promise to get the phone back in a week. I'm going to drive out to where he is when I want to change my battery (he's in edenvale) and find out.

Try restoring your iPhone as a "new setup" dont restore your backup.. so setup from scratch :) worked for me

Tried all the restores. I am running the newest firmware and have turned off everything except the phone self (gps, 3G, push email, notifications). But still no luck, I charged the phone with a car charger and turned on 3g and gps, phone get very hot, so I guess it fried it somewhat.
Found a place in Capw Town, irestore, they can do it for R350 and takes about 10 minutes, so looks like the best deal.

Yip that sounds like a good deal :)

Is your phone a factory unlocked ??? , if not activate with an original sim , then unlock it

I bought it from Vodacom on contract about a year and a half ago... so it is the original sim.

I charged it through the night, so when I left the house at about 8 this morning it was at 100%, turned on notifications and push email, played some games, looked at my mails a number of times... and battery at 48% now. So it seems to better now that I have turned everything back on?

There is a dude down the road from you in Somerset West that does all kinds of work on iPhones, replacing covers, display and also including battery replacements. I have lost his details right now

It's not your battery it's the way your iPhone 3GS does notifications if it's jailbroken and unlocked - that could be the issue. Had that before, the symptoms are continuous data usage and rapid battery drain. The phone actually gets hot just sitting there.

Phone isn't jailbroken...
Will try another restore tonight and see if that helps, but otherwise I will be going to get a new battery, it just seems more and more like the battery is kaput.

It's possible that the battery got really hot sometime, like if you leave it in the sun, that's not too good for it.

Taking apart a 3GS isn't too hard. You take off the two little screws at the bottom, and use a suction cup to pry open the front panel with the screen. Then you disconnect 3 little ribbon cables and you're in! I've done it before, on my own, and I've never fixed a cellphone. Was a little nerve-wracking though!

Just had my battery replaced fro R500, was quick and easy but I'm still a little perturbed that it is so difficult to do it oneself (I know it's easy technically but to find the right battery that isn't going to cause trouble like the R170 kit from wantitall etc etc), although I knew this when I bought the phone... sigh... and I'll probably end up getting another iphone when 5 comes out... anyways, happy to have a working phone again.
